Job summary

OpenAI is seeking a data infrastructure engineer to design, build, and operate massive data platforms at scale. You will own lifecycle across architecture, implementation, production operations, and on-call participation, supporting Spark, Kafka, Flink, Airflow, Trino, and Iceberg ecosystems.

You will work from our San Francisco HQ with a hybrid model and relocation assistance for new employees. The role emphasizes reliability, security, and performance in AI-driven data workflows.

Qualifications

• 4+ years in data infrastructure engineering OR 4+ years in infrastructure engineering with a strong interest in data.
• Ability to design, build, and operate scalable, reliable, secure data systems.
• Experience debugging large-scale distributed systems and on-call participation.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain data infrastructure systems including compute, orchestration, storage, and streaming.
• Ensure the data platform scales by orders of magnitude while remaining reliable and efficient.
• Empower engineers with robust data tooling and systems.
• Collaborate with product, research, and analytics teams to enable new features.
• Own the reliability of the systems you build and participate in on-call rotations.
