Job summary

OpenAI is seeking a Data Platform Engineer to design, build, and operate data infrastructure at scale for critical product, research, and analytics workloads. You will work on large Spark/Kafka/Flink-based stacks, implement Terrafrom-driven deployments, and own end-to-end lifecycle from architecture to operations.

The role is based in San Francisco with a hybrid work model and relocation assistance for new employees.

Qualifications

• Experience with distributed data infrastructure and large-scale systems.
• Experience with Spark, Kafka, Flink, Airflow, Trino, or Iceberg.
• Ability to own architecture, implementation, and operations end-to-end.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain data infrastructure systems with scalability, reliability, and security.
• Scale data platforms to handle orders-of-magnitude growth.
• Accelerate product and research productivity via robust data tooling.
• Collaborate with product, research, and analytics teams to enable new features.
• Own system reliability, including on-call participation.
