Job summary

Steampunk seeks a Data Governance SME to design, implement, and operationalize data governance practices for a large federal client’s data environment. You will focus on metadata management, data cataloging, and stewardship workflows to ensure assets are discoverable, trustworthy, and well-governed.

Role requires 10+ years of experience, ability to obtain a U.S. government security clearance, and strong collaboration with technical and business stakeholders across data quality and AI risk

Qualifications

• Requires US government security clearance eligibility.
• Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Data Management, Data Science, Business Analytics, Computer Science, or related field, with 10+ years total experience.
• 6+ years of data governance, data management, or data science experience.
• Experience building data governance frameworks and stewardship operating models.
• Knowledge of metadata types (business, technical, operational) and data lineage.
• Familiarity with data privacy, security, and access control concepts and data-access workflows.
• Proficiency with SQL and Excel for data quality assessment.
• Understanding of AI training data concepts, origin, quality, and bias considerations.

Responsibilities

• Assess current-state data assets, governance practices, and interoperability constraints; deliver a Data Management Framework.
• Implement and maintain data catalogs, metadata repositories, and business glossaries.
• Support definitions of data stewardship and ownership models; manage issue lifecycles.
