Job summary

Sun Communities, Inc. is seeking a Data Governance Specialist to develop and execute governance practices that improve data quality and standardization enterprise-wide. You will document standards, coordinate committees, and support business and technical teams in applying governance rules.

The role emphasizes embedding governance into daily operations, maintaining glossaries, metadata, and data definitions, and promoting responsible data use across the organization.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in information systems, data management, business, analytics, or related field.
• 5 years of experience in data governance, data management, or analytics.
• Foundational understanding of data governance concepts like data quality, metadata, glossaries, stewardship, and responsible data use.
• Strong organizational, documentation, and process coordination skills.
• Effective cross-functional communication across business and technical teams.
• Ability to learn quickly and support ongoing governance adoption.
• Experience with governance committees, steward networks, or cross-functional data initiatives.
• Exposure to governance tools, metadata systems, or cataloging platforms.
• Familiarity with BI/analytics concepts and data workflows.
• Knowledge of AI governance and responsible AI principles.

Responsibilities

• Support rollout and operation of Sun's data governance framework via documentation, coordination, and communication.
• Maintain governance policies, standards, procedures, and glossaries; keep them current.
• Coordinate governance meetings, agendas, decisions, and follow-ups.
• Work with business/technical stewards to document data definitions and data quality rules.
• Serve as contact for teams applying governance standards; provide guidance.
• Support standardized use of business terms, metrics, and data elements.
• Assist data quality improvement efforts with data and remediation workflows.
• Aid training by preparing materials and maintaining resource libraries.
• Collaborate with analytics, IT, and business teams to embed governance in day-to-day activities.
• Track governance activities and documentation updates for progress reporting.
• Identify opportunities to simplify processes and improve adoption for end users.
• Other duties and special projects as assigned.
