Job description

Our client in the Pittsburgh, PA area is seeking a Data Governance Analyst for a hybrid 12+ month contract that is three days a week in the office. The Data Governance Analyst works with the business to understand data needs and turn them into clear, practical solutions. Working with the business and technology teams, the candidate helps make sure data is well organized, trusted and available to the right people. The role combines day-to-day DG work with fast-paced project delivery. The successful candidate will be comfortable handling several workstreams at the same time in an agile environment, working with colleagues across the US and UK and with external service providers.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities
  • Manage several workstreams at once in a fast-paced, agile program, prioritizing and adapting as needs change.
  • Work in a collaborative and coordinated way with the business, technology teams and external service providers (both incoming and outgoing), across the US and UK.
  • Understand investment operations data (for example holdings, transactions, pricing and corporate actions) and how it works from both a program and Business-as-Usual (BAU) perspective.
  • Proactively deliver DG activities by identifying and mapping data requirements and understanding the business processes behind them.
  • Make sure the project team follows the DG framework, including its data quality standards, during quality assurance (QA) and testing activities. For example, check that data received from the new provider meets agreed standards.
  • Work with project teams so that all in-scope data is governed, with data quality checks planned before go-live.
  • Support the training of data owners, data stewards and technology teams involved in the program. Agree how data should be kept accurate and accessed, and record how data moves between systems.
  • Work with the business through data working groups to maintain DG policies and procedures and embed the data governance framework.
  • Develop and maintain data dictionary records for all in-scope business terms, including the business glossary, data quality rules and data lineage.
  • Develop business and data quality rules with data owners, agree monitoring and reporting needs, and confirm that data quality issues are closed.
  • Promote the identification, assessment and management of data-related risks (including privacy and security), and help the business design effective data controls.
  • Promote good data practice and awareness across the business.
  • Act as a subject matter expert for data, analytics and governance standards within the program.
  • Deliver the agreed DG activities and apply the Data Governance Framework to the project team throughout the program lifecycle.
  • Create data dictionary records and load and maintain them in data catalogue tools (for example Informatica).
  • Define, monitor and report on data quality requirements on an ongoing basis.
Required Skills
  • Experience of delivering data governance in BAU and large transformation programs, including creating business glossaries, data dictionaries and data mappings.
  • Experience of investment operations or middle office data in a financial services firm or professional consultancy (for example Investment Book of Record (IBOR), performance, reconciliations or pricing).
  • Experience working in a dynamic, agile environment and handling multiple activities at the same time.
  • Good working knowledge of data modelling, data mapping, and data and process flow design.
  • Strong collaboration, stakeholder engagement, communication and presentation skills, with confidence working with the business at all levels.
  • Proactive approach to managing tasks and removing blockages, so work moves at the right pace.
  • Detail-oriented, with a focus on the quality of content and deliverables, while keeping the big picture in mind.
  • Able to pick up new systems and processes quickly.
Desired Skills
  • Knowledge of data governance and data catalogue tools (such as Informatica, Microsoft Purview or Collibra) and data and analytics platforms (such as Databricks, Markit EDM or PowerApps).
  • Experience with project management tools such as DevOps.
  • Curious and digitally savvy, able to spot opportunities to challenge the status quo and automate data work.
  • Passionate about adding value.
  • Experience presenting data using tools such as PowerBI or similar.
