Job summary

The Applied Research Laboratories at UT Austin invites applications for a Multi-Source Data Fusion Research Associate. You will perform high‑level research across multi‑source data fusion, environmental and geospatial modeling, machine learning, and digital twin / multi‑agent simulation to advance the lab's research portfolio.

Responsibilities include developing fusion algorithms, designing experiments, publishing results, presenting at sponsor meetings, and guiding junior staff.

Qualifications

• PhD in engineering, CS, physics, or related field.
• Experience developing software for scientific applications.
• Experience in data fusion, statistical estimation, ML, or environmental/geospatial modeling.
• Peer‑reviewed publications and demonstrated ability to present to technical and non‑technical audiences.

Responsibilities

• Perform high‑level independent research in multi‑source data fusion, environmental and geospatial modeling, ML, and digital twin / multi‑agent simulation.
• Present and publish research internally and externally; participate in reviews and sponsor meetings.
• Contribute to problem formulation, algorithms, system designs, and software implementations for data fusion and modeling.
• Develop multi‑source data fusion algorithms for improved detection, correlation, and classification.
• Develop environmental suitability models to predict routes and movement patterns and simulate courses of action.
• Contribute to digital twin and multi‑agent simulations that combine history, environment, and activity data.
• Design experiments and analyses to gauge performance of fusion and tracking methods; make recommendations.
• Implement software algorithms in a collaborative environment; document interfaces and test cases.
• Develop knowledge of multi‑source data fusion, estimation, ML, environmental modeling, and software principles.
• Provide guidance to staff and identify new research directions.
• Travel for sponsor meetings as needed.
