Job summary

Citi in Tampa, Florida is seeking a Data Engineering Lead to guide senior-level data initiatives with a strong focus on SQL development and scalable data platforms powering Citi's global banking operations.

Lead complex database engineering and ETL pipelines between Oracle/SQL databases and enterprise data platforms, ensure data quality and governance, and mentor mid-level developers across global programs.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of relevant experience in SQL/PL/SQL engineering across enterprise relational databases (Oracle, PostgreSQL).
• Extensive experience in system analysis and programming of software applications, with a proven track record in high-performance SQL query tuning, indexing, and ETL pipeline optimization on multi-terabyte datasets.
• Demonstrated experience managing and implementing successful projects end-to-end — from requirements gathering and FSD/TSD documentation through UAT, STG, and PROD deployment.
• Subject Matter Expert (SME) in at least one area of Applications Development — ideally in PL/SQL database engineering, data entitlement frameworks, or enterprise BI analytics (Power BI, Tableau, Cognos).
• Strong Agile/Scrum leadership skills — ability to serve as Scrum Master or Product Owner, lead sprint planning, author user stories in JIRA / Azure DevOps, and manage cross-functional delivery teams.

Responsibilities

• Provide analysis and guidance to junior staff, defining technical issues and crafting innovative solutions while mentoring team members.
• Assess risk in business decisions and ensure compliance with laws and Citi policies.

Data Engineering Lead

The Data Engineering Lead is a senior-level position responsible for establishing and implementing new or revised application systems and programs in coordination with the Technology team. With a specific focus on SQL development, this role leads complex database engineering, application systems analysis, and programming activities — building scalable, high-performance data solutions that power Citi's global banking operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Partner with multiple management teams to ensure appropriate integration of functions to meet goals; identify and define necessary system enhancements to deploy new products and drive process improvements across enterprise platforms.
• Develop, optimize, and maintain complex SQL/PL/SQL stored procedures, functions, packages, and triggers to automate high-impact data operations, entitlements, and business workflows on large-scale relational databases.
• Resolve high-impact problems and projects through in-depth evaluation of complex business processes, system processes, and industry standards — translating ambiguous requirements into precise, scalable database solutions.
• Provide expertise and advanced knowledge of applications programming; ensure application design and database architecture adheres to the overall enterprise blueprint, coding standards, and security policies.
• Utilize advanced knowledge of system flow to develop and enforce standards for coding, testing, debugging, and implementation across the SQL and application development lifecycle.
• Build interactive BI dashboards and develop ETL integration pipelines between Oracle/SQL databases and enterprise data platforms, ensuring data quality and governance compliance.
• Provide in-depth analysis with interpretive thinking to define technical issues and develop innovative solutions; serve as an advisor and coach to mid-level developers and analysts, allocating work as appropriate.
• Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules, regulations, and escalating control issues with transparency.

Recommended Qualifications
