Job summary

Janney-Montgomery-Scott-LLC is seeking an experienced Data Engineering & Operations Leader to drive the firm's data platforms strategy and execution. You will partner with technology, security, architecture, and business leaders to define roadmaps and ensure scalable, secure data delivery across reporting, analytics, and AI-enabled use cases.

Job description

The Data Engineering & Operations Leader will lead the firm's Data Engineering & Operations function, delivering scalable, secure, and reliable data platforms that support reporting, analytics, operational workflows, and AI-enabled capabilities. Reporting to the Chief Data Officer, this role will partner with Technology, Information Security, Enterprise Architecture, Business leaders, and other key stakeholders.

This individual will define and execute the enterprise data platform architecture and engineering roadmap while overseeing data engineering, platform operations, and production support. The role will establish standards and operational disciplines that improve reliability, scalability, security, and delivery quality.

What You Are Good At
  • Enterprise Data Platform Strategy & Architecture: Defining and executing scalable, secure, and resilient data platform strategies aligned with business and technology priorities.
  • Data Engineering & Operational Excellence: Leading enterprise data engineering and operations while establishing standards, automation, DevOps practices, and disciplines that promote reliability and quality.
  • Technology Modernization & Innovation: Modernizing complex data environments through cloud technologies, reusable architecture, and engineering best practices while balancing innovation, security, cost, and operational stability.
  • Leadership & Strategic Delivery: Building high-performing technical teams and delivery models that leverage internal capabilities and strategic partners while fostering accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
What You Will Do
Enterprise Data Platform
  • Define and execute the enterprise data platform roadmap aligned with strategic priorities and the firm's technology direction.
  • Establish technical architecture principles, engineering standards, and patterns that promote scalability, reuse, security, and operational excellence.
  • Lead the evolution and modernization of enterprise data platforms, storage, and analytical environments.
  • Partner with Enterprise Architecture, Technology, and Information Security to ensure alignment with enterprise, cloud, and cybersecurity standards.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and identify opportunities to improve performance, scalability, and business value while reducing technical debt.
Data Engineering & Platform Operations
  • Lead the development and operational support of enterprise data pipelines, integrations, curated data products, and analytical structures.
  • Establish engineering and operational practices that ensure reliable, secure, scalable, and high-performing data solutions.
  • Oversee production monitoring, incident management, performance, capacity planning, and service reliability.
  • Implement DevOps, automation, CI/CD, testing, and deployment practices that improve engineering efficiency and quality.
  • Promote reusable components and standardized engineering practices across Enterprise Data.
Engineering Delivery & Strategic Partners
  • Establish a scalable delivery model that effectively leverages internal engineering teams and strategic technology partners.
  • Oversee delivery quality, capacity, performance, and resource requirements to meet current and future business demand.
  • Establish performance expectations, operational metrics, and service levels for internal and external delivery teams.
  • Continuously identify opportunities to improve engineering effectiveness and operational efficiency.
Technology Modernization & Continuous Improvement
  • Modernize enterprise data platforms through cloud technologies, automation, reusable services, and engineering best practices.
  • Improve platform performance, scalability, resiliency, security, and operational efficiency.
  • Enable AI capabilities by providing trusted, scalable, secure, and accessible enterprise data.
  • Promote engineering innovation, standardization, and continuous improvement.
Leadership & Team Development
  • Build and develop a high-performing data engineering organization focused on technical excellence and operational reliability.
  • Develop engineering capabilities through workforce planning, technical development, and strategic partner management.
  • Partner across Data, Technology, Information Security, and Enterprise Architecture to deliver integrated enterprise capabilities.
  • Align resources with the firm's highest-priority initiatives while maintaining operational stability.
  • Attract, develop, and retain technical talent capable of modernizing and scaling enterprise data capabilities.
What You Have
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience leading enterprise data engineering, platform engineering, technical data architecture, or technology organizations within financial services or similarly regulated industries.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and modernizing enterprise data platforms using cloud-based technologies.
  • Experience leading data engineering teams responsible for data pipelines, integrations, APIs, and production operations.
  • Strong knowledge of modern data architecture, cloud platforms, DevOps, automation, data integration, and enterprise engineering practices.
  • Experience leading internal engineering teams and strategic technology partners, including vendor and delivery management.
  • Experience establishing engineering standards, operational metrics, service levels, and service management practices.
  • Proven ability to influence senior Business and Technology leaders and solve complex technical challenges.
  • Ability to balance business priorities, technology investments, operational risk, and long-term platform sustainability.
  • Financial services industry experience preferred.
