Job summary

Sanity.io is hiring a Senior to Staff Data Engineer in San Francisco to design and grow our data infrastructure, pipelines, and analytics foundation. You will partner with product, engineering, and analytics teams to enable reliable data access, telemetry, and governance across the organization.

You will implement monitoring, SLAs, and data quality processes while scaling our data platform, and work with AI-enabled tooling to accelerate data-driven decisions.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience architecting data warehouse and pipeline infrastructure, with strong expertise in SQL and Python.

Responsibilities

• Architect, build, and maintain Sanity's data ecosystem: pipelines, integrations, and the warehouse.
• Partner with engineering teams to implement and scale product telemetry across our product surfaces.
• Work closely with analysts, engineers, and other stakeholders to understand their data needs and build reliable pipelines.
• Build and maintain monitoring, alerting, and logging for pipeline health and data lineage.
• Implement SLAs/SLOs for critical pipelines and data quality monitoring.

Sanity is looking for a Data Engineer (Senior to Staff level) to build and scale the data infrastructure that powers the whole company. The pipelines and services you build will directly shape how teams across Sanity work with data, and strengthen the foundation our analytics run on. You'll work closely with engineers, analysts, and business stakeholders to make data more accessible, reliable, and actionable while contributing to a culture of data excellence within our centralized Data & Analytics organization.

What you would do:

• Architect, build, and maintain Sanity's data ecosystem: pipelines, integrations, and the warehouse, keeping data reliably ingested, transformed, and available to the teams that need it.

• Partner with engineering teams to implement and scale product telemetry across our product surfaces.

• Work closely with analysts, engineers, and other stakeholders to understand their data needs and build reliable pipelines that support data-driven decision-making now and as the business grows.

• Build and maintain monitoring, alerting, and logging that give clear visibility into pipeline health, data lineage, and system performance.

• Implement SLAs/SLOs for critical pipelines, establish incident response procedures, and develop data quality monitoring that proactively catches anomalies, schema changes, and freshness issues.

• Build and maintain the data team's eval framework, keeping evaluation pipelines reliable and easy for the team to extend as our AI use cases grow.

• Optimize pipeline performance and cost as data volumes grow, and help evolve our infrastructure through careful evaluation of new tools and practices.

• Drive platform-wide engineering standards: code quality, testing frameworks, CI/CD practices, schema conventions, and documentation.

• Create and deploy strategies to maintain data security, integrity, and regulatory compliance.

About you:

• Based in: San Francisco, the team comes into the SF office 2 times a week

• 5+ years of experience architecting data warehouse and pipeline infrastructure, with strong expertise in SQL and Python.

• Fluent in dbt, workflow orchestration tools (e.g. Dagster, Airflow), and ELT/event tooling (e.g. Airbyte, RudderStack) in a fast-moving data environment.

• Demonstrated success building and maintaining large-scale data pipelines using technologies such as Google Datastream and BigQuery.

• Hands-on with Google Cloud Platform, including IaC tools like Terraform and cloud network infrastructure.

• Active experience with AI-assisted development tools integrated into engineering workflows, with an eye toward scaling those practices across a team.

• Strong organization skills to effectively manage and lead strategic projects, while prioritizing ad-hoc requests.

• Comfortable with ambiguity, have a strong analytical acumen, self-motivated, able to work cross functionally.

• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work across dynamic teams and explain ideas to both technical and non-technical audiences.

• Salary Range: $180k - $240k annually. Final compensation within this range will be determined based on the candidate’s experience and skill set.
