EY is seeking a motivated professional with solid experience in the industrials, energy or utilities sector to serve as a Senior AI Data Engineer who possesses a robust background in AI, Gen AI, Agentic AI, preferably with an electrical engineering background. The ideal candidate will have a history of working for consulting companies and be well-versed in the fast-paced culture of consulting work. This role is dedicated to the industrials, energy, and utilities sector, where the successful candidate will craft, deploy, and maintain large-scale AI data architectures.

The opportunity

As a Senior Data Engineer, you will be at the forefront of designing and implementing analytics solutions that drive substantial business value. You'll work closely with a diverse group of stakeholders to translate complex business requirements into precise technical specifications. Your role is crucial in bridging the gap between business needs and technical solutions, ensuring the successful execution of data-driven projects.

Your key responsibilities
  1. Design and implement scalable data architectures.
  2. Ensure efficient data lifecycle management.
  3. Contribute to the delivery of key projects and solutions.
  4. Architect and refine AI data architecture and modern data pipelines, integrating agentic AI solutions for clients in the industrials, energy, or power and utility sectors.
  5. Leverage your knowledge of industrials, energy or power and utility systems and processes to define data requirements, gather, profile and analyze large scale structured and unstructured source data, and develop AI/GenAI/Agentic AI solutions.
  6. Develop the mechanisms to ingest, analyze, validate, normalize, and clean data to support standardization, customization and ad hoc data analysis needs.
  7. Evaluate and implement cutting-edge tools and methodologies to enhance data engineering productivity.
  8. Collaborate with a diverse team of business analysts, solution architects, and data scientists to develop strategic enterprise solutions and data products.
Skills and attributes for success
  1. A deep understanding of the value chain and core processes within the energy, or power systems sectors.
  2. Proficiency in AI, GenAI/Agentic AI, relational SQL databases, DevOps, continuous integration, and data lake concepts.
  3. A proven ability to design and maintain complex data integrations and ETL pipelines.
  4. Strong organizational skills, capable of leading projects across globally distributed teams.
  5. Exceptional communication skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex data issues.
  6. Collaborate with stakeholders to define technical specifications.
  7. Participate in client sessions and lead workstream teams.
  8. Manage resource plans, budgets, and project statuses.
To qualify for the role, you must have
  1. A Bachelor’s degree in electrical/Power Systems Engineering, AI, Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field.
  2. At least 5 years of experience in data engineering, AI, and analytics.
  3. At least 5 years of experience in the power and utilities sector.
  4. A track record of implementing complex data solutions and familiarity with cloud services, data engineering programming languages, and data architecture.
  5. Demonstrated understanding and experience using:
    1. AI, GenAI/Agentic AI
    2. Relational SQL databases
    3. DevOps and continuous integration
    4. Microsoft Fabric, Databricks/Snowflake
    5. GitHub
  6. Experience in cloud computing, data architecture design, data integration, and software engineering.
  7. Professional certifications as defined by service line policies.
  8. Relationship management skills.
  9. Critical thinking and emotional agility.
Ideally, you’ll also have
  1. Proven ability to navigate complex issues and make informed decisions.
  2. Experience in supervising and guiding junior team members.
  3. Demonstrated participation in sales opportunities and RFP responses.
  4. Leadership experience with a focus on team development and mentorship.

What we offer

We offer a comprehensive compensation and benefits package where you’ll be rewarded based on your performance and recognized for the value you bring to the business. The base salary range for this job in all geographic locations in the US is $105,100 to $192,700. The salary range for New York City Metro Area, Washington State and California (excluding Sacramento) is $126,100 to $218,900. Individual salaries within those ranges are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge, skills and geography. In addition, our Total Rewards package includes medical and dental coverage, pension and 401(k) plans, and a wide range of paid time off options.

Join us in our team-led and leader-enabled hybrid model. Our expectation is for most people in external, client serving roles to work together in person 40-60% of the time over the course of an engagement, project or year. Under our flexible vacation policy, you’ll decide how much vacation time you need based on your own personal circumstances. You’ll also be granted time off for designated EY Paid Holidays, Winter/Summer breaks, Personal/Family Care, and other leaves of absence when needed to support your physical, financial, and emotional well-being.
