Job summary

Wlgroup seeks a hands-on data engineer in Norfolk, VA to build and maintain data pipelines, models and dashboards for a multinational defence portfolio. You will work directly with programme managers and data owners to determine information needs and deliver decision-ready data products.

The role requires a university degree in a related field, 3+ years in data integration/engineering, and strong SQL and data-collection experience. Long-term engagement with visa support is provided.

Qualifications

• This role requires hands-on end-to-end delivery from identifying needs to operational solutions.
• Three of the last five years in data integration and engineering with hands-on recent work.
• Two of the last five years using SQL and an analytical language with hands-on recent work.
• Experience designing digital data-collection and workflow solutions.
• Three of the last five years building business intelligence products.
• Hands-on data modelling, data quality and governance work.
• Ability to document and hand over a solution so it survives without you.
• Experience working with operational users and programme staff.

Responsibilities

• Hands-on data integration, engineering and analysis across the portfolio.
• Design, build, test and maintain repeatable pipelines ingesting data from multiple sources.
• Build data models, business rules and quality controls for trustworthy outputs.
• Prototype digital data-collection apps to replace spreadsheet reporting.
• Build dashboards, metrics and visualisations showing programme status.
• Apply descriptive and diagnostic analysis and predictive techniques where needed.
• Integrate portfolio information with enterprise sources via approved mechanisms.
• Identify and fix data quality, ownership, lineage and governance issues.
• Document sources, models, transformations and operating procedures.
