Job summary

World Food Programme invites applications for an IT Solutions Officer (Data Engineer) to strengthen data capacity in South Sudan and enable data-driven decision making. The consultant will build robust pipelines, ensure data governance, and collaborate with TEC and regional offices in a challenging environment.

The role requires strong Python, PySpark, SQL, PostgreSQL, and cloud skills, with experience in offline data collection and BI/AI support. Fluency in English is essential.

Qualifications

• Advanced degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics or related field, or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 5 years of data engineering experience for master’s holders; 7 years for bachelor’s holders.
• Experience in emergency operations or hardship duty stations is essential.
• Proven ETL/ELT design and data pipeline development experience.
• Strong Python, PySpark, SQL skills and experience with relational databases.

Responsibilities

• Build robust data pipelines to ingest, clean, transform, and aggregate data from multiple sources with data governance.
• Implement data logging, monitoring, and error handling to ensure data quality and reliability.
• Collaborate with TEC and Regional Office to align with corporate data architecture.
• Develop offline-capable data collection and synchronization solutions.
• Create and maintain data models and schemas to support BI, analytics, and AI.
• Provide first-line support for end-user bugs and issues.
• Work in sprints using agile methodologies and user stories.
• Perform QA tasks including data quality checks and UX validations.
• Mentor data focal points on data management best practices and engineering principles.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
