Firework, a leading AI‑driven video commerce company in the Bay Area, seeks a motivated Data Engineer Intern to join our engineering team. You will help design and maintain data pipelines, processing systems, and analytics tools that power business intelligence and product development.

The role emphasizes hands-on learning, collaboration with experienced engineers, and exposure to modern data technologies in a fast-paced, on-site environment at our San Mateo office.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.
• Foundational knowledge of Python and SQL and ability to write queries, manipulate data, or develop scripts.
• Familiarity with databases, data structures, and data processing concepts.
• Interest in learning modern AI and data technologies such as Snowflake, BigQuery, Apache Spark, Flink, or Apache Airflow.

Responsibilities

• Assist in designing, developing, and maintaining data pipelines and infrastructure that support analytics and BI applications.
• Support ETL/ELT processes to collect, transform, and organize data from multiple sources.
• Write and optimize SQL queries and Python scripts for data processing and reporting.
• Collaborate with data engineers, software engineers, and analytics teams to improve data quality and accessibility.
• Help build data tools and dashboards that provide actionable insights into business performance.
• Gain hands-on experience with cloud-based data infrastructure and data warehouses.
• Assist in troubleshooting data pipelines, identify performance improvements, and implement solutions with guidance from senior engineers.
• Participate in code reviews, technical discussions, and team meetings while learning engineering best practices.
• Document data processes, workflows, and technical solutions to support ongoing development.
