Job Description
We are seeking a Data Engineer / Integration Specialist to support data modernization and interoperability initiatives for the VA under T4NG2. This role focuses on building data pipelines, enabling system integration, and supporting enterprise data exchange. This position is critical to improving data accessibility, interoperability, and decision‑making across VA systems.
Requirements
- U.S. Citizenship is required.
- Must be able to obtain a Public Trust clearance.
- This position is primarily remote; however, must be able to come on‑site in Washington, DC, as required.
Qualifications And Experience
- Bachelor degree in Computer Science or related
- Minimum of ten (10) years of relevant experience
- Certifications in data engineering or cloud platforms are preferred
- Experience with ETL tools and data pipeline development
- Proficiency in SQL and programming languages (Python, Java)
- Experience with APIs, microservices, and middleware
- Knowledge of data modeling and architecture
- Experience with event‑driven and streaming data architectures (e.g., Kafka, Kinesis, SQS/SNS)
- Experience integrating with VA Lighthouse APIs or enterprise API gateway platforms
- Knowledge of FHIR‑based APIs and real‑time healthcare data exchange patterns (not just HL7/FHIR formats)
- Experience working in AWS GovCloud environments
- Familiarity with cloud‑native data services (e.g., S3, Glue, Lambda, RDS, Redshift, Kinesis)
- Experience with data governance, lineage, and data quality frameworks
- Understanding of data security and privacy controls in regulated environments (PII/PHI, FISMA/FedRAMP)
- Experience with API‑first integration patterns and microservices‑based data access
- Experience supporting legacy system integration (mainframe or monolith modernization)
- Familiarity with containerized data services (Docker/Kubernetes)
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with healthcare data (HL7, FHIR)
- Experience supporting federal or VA data systems
- Knowledge of big data technologies (Spark, Hadoop)
