Interested in joining a growing company where you will work with talented colleagues, enhance a supportive and energetic culture, and be part of the climate solution? At Energy Solutions, we focus on the big impacts. We believe market-based programs can deliver large-scale energy, carbon, and water-use savings. Since 1995, we've provided proven, performance-based solutions for utility, government, and institutional customers.

We are seeking a Data Engineer III to join our Information Systems team. In this role, you will design, develop, and maintain data and ETL platforms supporting our data needs across Energy Solutions, leveraging AWS technologies to build scalable data pipelines. This position is ideal for individuals with strong technical skills in data engineering who want to make a significant impact on energy efficiency and greenhouse gas reduction efforts for major North American utilities and other clients.

This is a hybrid work opportunity, requiring onsite presence at one of our offices (Oakland, CA; Portland, OR; Chicago, IL; Boston, MA) at least 1 day per week (currently Wednesdays), with flexibility for additional days. Currently, we are not accepting applications from residents of Alaska, Delaware, Kentucky, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, and Wyoming.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  1. Architecting and Optimizing ETL Pipelines: Design, implement, and optimize scalable ETL processes, ensuring data integrity and efficiency for complex transformations and large data ingestion.
  2. Enterprise Data Modeling & Database Architecture: Develop data models and database architectures supporting high-performance data ecosystems, utilizing best practices in normalization and dimensional modeling.
  3. Performance Optimization & Scalability: Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, implementing tuning strategies, indexing, partitioning, and caching to enhance system throughput.
Minimum Qualifications:
  1. Bachelor's degree in computer science or IT with 6+ years of relevant experience, or a master's degree in a related field.
  2. Alternatively, candidates with 6+ years of relevant work experience in related technologies are encouraged to apply.
  3. Proficiency in programming languages such as PL/SQL, SQL, and Python, with the ability to develop efficient queries, procedures, and scripts.
  4. Experience with AWS services like S3, Glue, Data Catalog, Redshift, Spectrum, and Athena to build scalable data pipelines.
  5. Experience working with relational databases such as Postgres, Oracle, MySQL, or SQL Server, including database design and optimization.
  6. Knowledge of data governance and security best practices.
  7. Passion for learning new technologies and exploring innovative ETL approaches.

Compensation ranges from $120k to $145k annually, commensurate with experience, and includes benefits such as medical, dental, vision insurance, retirement plans, and an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP).
