OpenAI is seeking a Data Engineer to design, build, and scale the data infrastructure powering our hardware and consumer devices organization. You will tackle challenging data sources and evolving operational requirements while creating durable foundations for multiple teams and use cases.

You will work with hardware, software, operations, and data science partners to translate requirements into robust data solutions, shaping how we approach data engineering as the organization scales.

Qualifications

• Design, build, and operate complex data systems.
• Strong judgment on data architecture and scalable pipelines.
• Production-grade pipelines across heterogeneous data sources.

Responsibilities

• Build foundational data infrastructure to support hardware development, manufacturing, operations and product performance.
• Connect data ecosystems across manufacturing systems, device telemetry, QA and customer-facing ops.
• Develop reusable datasets and data architectures for cross-team measurement and investigation.
• Enable manufacturing and quality intelligence by linking production history to product performance and failure signals.
• Scale systems from early development to large-scale consumer deployment.
• Collaborate with hardware, software, operations and data science teams to translate requirements into robust solutions.
• Define engineering standards and data quality practices for long-term direction.
