Responsibilities

• USDS Financial Crime Compliance is responsible for overseeing and operationalizing Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Sanctions Compliance activities related to TikTok USDS's operations, collaborating cross-functionally with stakeholders across the U.S. and globally to address money-laundering, terrorist financing and sanction violations.
• Work to enhance collaboration and cross-functional partnerships, with a hybrid work schedule that requires in-office presence 3 days a week (or as directed by the manager/department); note that the model may change over time.
• As a Data Engineer, leverage machine learning, analytics, and visualization techniques to enhance capabilities in detecting and preventing financial crimes.
• Analyze large datasets, develop machine learning models, and create visualizations to identify patterns, anomalies, and potential risks related to money laundering, fraud, and sanctions violations.
• Design and maintain scalable data systems, drive operational efficiency, manage projects to ensure timely execution of data engineering initiatives that improve FCC compliance processes.
• Create and maintain technical documentation (data dictionaries, data flow diagrams, system documentation) to ensure efficient data management and analysis.
• Design, implement, and operate large-scale end-to-end distributed systems for data discovery using scalable, reusable, and configurable frameworks/methodologies.
• Define metrics and create/maintain dashboards to measure and report key performance indicators.
• Build and manage data inventories and data flow mappings by aggregating datasets from multiple source systems.
• Continuously improve the integrity of data pipelines to provide a comprehensive data service and ensure fault-tolerant data pipelines.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

• Strong understanding of relational databases (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, etc.) and advanced topics (optimization, replication, isolation).
• Strong understanding of distributed databases (e.g., Hive, Hudi, Iceberg, ClickHouse), NoSQL databases (e.g., Redis, HBase, Cassandra), message queues (e.g., Kafka, RocketMQ, RabbitMQ), unstructured distributed storage, and distributed computing frameworks (e.g., Spark, Flink).
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Data Science or a related field.
• Proficiency in SQL and an additional programming language (e.g., Python, Java, or Scala).
• Experience in issue tracking and problem solving on data pipelines; ability to understand business needs and collaborate in a team.
• 2+ years of experience in data analytics and data engineering, including data cleaning, preprocessing, data analysis, and dashboard development; proficiency in data modeling and data design.

Preferred Qualifications:

• 5 years of programming and debugging experience in Python, SQL, PySpark, with 2+ years of distributed data processing using Spark/Scala/Java, Hadoop/HDFS/AWS/S3, Cassandra, and Kafka.
• Ability to collaborate with cross-regional teams and serve as an individual contributor.
• Strong curiosity about industry developments; understanding of containers/orchestration (Kubernetes) and cloud environments (public/hybrid/private).
• Strong background in algorithms and data structures; ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical partners.
• Ability to deliver high-quality results in a fast-paced environment.

Job Information

For Pay Transparency: Compensation Description (Annually). The base salary range for this position in the selected city is $118,657 - $259,200 annually. Compensation may vary based on qualifications, skills, competencies, experience, and location. Base pay may be eligible for bonuses/incentives and restricted stock units. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) with company match, parental leave, disability coverage, life insurance, wellbeing benefits, and paid time off. The Company may modify benefits at any time.
