Job summary

Sporting Kansas City is seeking a Data Engineer to lead the design, development and maintenance of scalable data infrastructure, delivering pipelines and accessible data for analysis and decision-making across the Club.

You will collaborate with coaches, analysts and IT to ensure data protection, governance and reliable data delivery while building a centralized data platform and APIs for efficient access. Experience with cloud data stacks and ML deployment is valued.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, data science or related STEM subject.
• Significant experience in a Data Engineering or similar role.
• Proven experience designing, developing and maintaining data pipelines, data models and database schemas.
• Robust experience using SQL and Python for data cleaning, engineering, transformation and automation workflows.
• Experience with modern cloud-based data infrastructure (Azure, AWS or GCP).
• Experience implementing best-practice data orchestration, version control, governance.

Responsibilities

• Work closely with coaches, analysts, scouts and stakeholders to understand data needs and translate them into scalable solutions.
• Develop relationships with the Data and Analytics team to promote governance and accessibility.
• Collaborate with IT to ensure data protection and compliance policies are upheld.
• Lead design, development and maintenance of scalable ETL/ELT pipelines for decision-making tools and dashboards.
• Ensure reliable data collection, validation, monitoring, testing, transformation and delivery processes.
• Lead data storage, schema documentation and governance standards.
• Integrate data from multiple data providers and Club systems to create a single source of truth.
• Support development and deployment of reporting tools, internal applications and dashboards.
• Continuously evaluate workflows and technologies to maximize reliability and drive innovation.
• Work with the First Team Data Scientist to productionize models and ML projects.
