Job summary

Cognizant is seeking a Data Engineer to design, develop, and maintain robust data pipelines for structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data. The role emphasizes Python, SQL, and cloud-oriented data solutions across AWS, Azure, and GCP.

You'll collaborate with data scientists and business stakeholders, build data models and dashboards, and ensure data governance and security standards are met. Relocation to Plano, TX or Teaneck, NJ may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Engineering, or a related field.
• Proficient in Python and SQL.
• Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
• Familiarity with Airflow or Prefect.
• Exposure to data lake/warehouse architectures (Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery).
• Knowledge of containers and CI/CD (Docker, Kubernetes, GitHub).
• Familiarity with data visualization tools.
• Understanding of ETL/ELT concepts, data modeling, and architecture.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and optimize data pipelines using Python, Spark, and SQL.
• Ingest and process structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data from diverse sources.
• Implement data quality checks and transformation logic.
• Collaborate with data scientists, analysts, and stakeholders to deliver solutions.
• Develop and maintain data models, dictionaries, and documentation.
• Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize data workflows for performance.
• Ensure compliance with data governance, security, and privacy policies.
• Support cloud-based data migration and modernization (AWS, Azure, GCP).
• Automate repetitive data engineering tasks and improve infrastructure.
• Knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
• Understand data security, encryption, and best practices.
