Job summary

Excel Sports Management, based in Chicago, is seeking a Data Engineer to build and maintain data pipelines powering reporting and client deliverables. You will ingest, transform, and deliver trustworthy data while emphasizing testing, data quality, and reliability alongside senior engineers.

The role sits in the Excel Analytics team, with responsibilities spanning ETL development, data modeling, and CI/CD workflows, requiring collaboration across teams in a fast-paced sports analytics

Qualifications

• Proficiency in Python and SQL, with hands-on experience building or maintaining data pipelines.
• Experience with OLTP/OLAP databases and data modeling.
• Familiarity with cloud environments (AWS preferred).

Responsibilities

• Build, maintain, and optimize data pipelines that ingest, transform, and export data from internal and external sources.
• Write and maintain automated tests—unit, integration, and data-quality checks.
• Develop Python-based data workflows and orchestration tasks.
• Contribute to relational data design and version-controlled migrations.
• Support data lake/warehouse layers (S3, Athena/Glue, PostgreSQL/Aurora).
• Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and containerized (Docker) workflows.
• Investigate and resolve data and pipeline issues; improve monitoring.
• Provide production support for data pipelines during standard hours.
• Collaborate with analysts, engineers, and client-facing teams.
