Job Summary

This mid-level role supports the Generative AI for Forms SBIR project by designing, developing, and maintaining robust data infrastructure for AI-powered Navy maintenance applications. You'll work with a high-performance, cross-functional team integrating AI/ML components into real-world workflows and systems modernization efforts.

You will lead or support efforts to build data pipelines, curate and transform structured and unstructured datasets, support database design, and integrate data services with edge and mobile platforms. The role focuses on engineering systems that enable high-quality AI outcomes, rather than developing AI models directly.

As with any position, additional expectations exist. These include, but are not limited to, adhering to normal working hours, meeting deadlines, following company policies, communicating regularly with assigned supervisors, and completing other tasks as assigned.

Responsibilities
  • Develop, maintain, and optimize data pipelines for structured and unstructured Navy maintenance data (ETL, cleansing, staging)
  • Support development of backend services and APIs used in AI-enhanced form completion workflows
  • Design and manage relational and NoSQL databases used for AI data ingestion, labeling, and evaluation
  • Collaborate with AI/ML engineers to provide labeled, validated, and scalable datasets for model development and evaluation
  • Integrate edge/mobile data flows with centralized backend infrastructure
  • Implement data quality checks, transformations, and governance for Navy-maintenance-specific use cases
  • Collaborate in Agile sprints with software engineers, AI developers, and domain SMEs
  • Support tools for auto-labeling, rubric-based scoring, and similarity search using embeddings
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field and 5+ years of experience in data services, ETL development, or database systems in enterprise or government environments
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Python
  • Demonstrated ability to use SQL to query, update, and program relational databases
  • Experience building and managing data pipelines (ETL/ELT), including use of tools like SSIS, Azure Synapse, or custom Python pipelines
  • Familiarity with REST APIs, version control (Git), and Agile development workflows
  • Experience working with large, messy, or legacy datasets from government systems
  • Eligible to obtain a U.S. Government clearance
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • If applicable: If you are or have been recently employed by the U.S. government, a post-employment ethics letter will be required if employment with VSolvit is offered
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field
  • Familiarity with Azure, AWS, or DoD cloud environments
  • Experience supporting or integrating with Navy systems (e.g., MFOM, AWN, NTCSS)
  • Experience working with LLMs or machine learning pipelines (e.g., preparing training data, automating annotations)
  • Knowledge of robotic process automation (RPA) tools or experience in integrating automated workflows
  • Familiarity with government data security, data quality scoring, or CMMI environments
