We currently have an exciting opportunity to join our Water Group as a REMOTE Data Engineer. This position requires that you will work with multiple offices as needed and travel on occasion. Data Engineer – Remote (U.S. Based Only)
Location: Remote (Must currently reside in the U.S. with valid work authorization)
Team: Water + GIS Innovation
Travel: Occasional (10–20%) for team meetings or client engagements

The Opportunity
McKim & Creed is seeking a Data Engineer to join our Water + GIS Innovation team. This position is ideal for an engineer who enjoys solving real-world challenges using data pipelines, time-series sensor analysis, and geospatial systems. You’ll help build and maintain the backend infrastructure that powers decision-making tools for water utilities and infrastructure clients across the U.S.

This role emphasizes backend software development and data integration using Python and C#, with a strong focus on time-series and spatial data processing.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING:

• Design, build, and optimize data pipelines and back-end services using Python and/or C#.
• Create and maintain RESTful APIs for internal data services and external integrations.
• Work extensively with Microsoft SQL Server for data ingestion, storage, and transformation.
• Manage, clean, and analyze time-series sensor data for system health and trend detection.
• Collaborate using Git/GitHub and agile development workflows.
• Support the development of field device monitoring tools and dashboards.
• Assist with integration of spatial (GIS) data into data processing workflows.

WHAT YOU NEED:

• This is a remote position—candidates must reside in the U.S.
• A U.S.-earned technical degree is required due to client compliance and communication needs.

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related technical field from a U.S.-based institution.
• 3–6 years of professional experience as a software or data engineer.
• Proficiency in Python and/or C# for backend development and data processing.
• Strong SQL skills, including experience with Microsoft SQL Server.
• Experience working in a remote development environment with distributed teams.
• Must be authorized to work in the U.S. and currently residing in the U.S.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

• Experience with Django, ASP.NET, or similar frameworks for API development.
• Familiarity with GIS technologies (ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS API for Python, PostGIS).
• Cloud platform experience (Azure, AWS, or GCP).
• Background in utilities, IoT, sensor data, or infrastructure monitoring.
