About The Role

Visa's Data Platforms organization is responsible for maintaining the foundational data ecosystem that powers some of the company's most critical business capabilities. Our teams manage large-scale platforms supporting core payment data domains such as authorization, clearing, and settlement, while also enabling next‑generation data products, analytics, and business insights. As a Senior Data Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in designing and building scalable, reliable data platforms that process and manage petabyte‑scale data. Your work will ensure data accessibility, security, and optimization for a broad range of internal and customer‑facing applications. You will collaborate with cross‑functional teams to develop innovative data solutions that support Visa’s global operations, modernize data delivery capabilities, and advance Master Data Management initiatives. This role offers a unique opportunity to influence platform architecture, mentor fellow engineers, and deliver solutions that enable teams across Visa to leverage data more effectively. The position requires digital fluency, including familiarity with emerging technologies such as Generative AI tools, to enhance productivity and innovation.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of 8+ years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor’s degree, or 5+ years with an advanced degree such as a Master’s or MBA, or 2+ years with a PhD. Alternatively, candidates with 11+ years of experience will also be considered. Strong expertise in SQL, NoSQL, graph databases, and RESTful APIs is essential. Candidates should have extensive hands‑on experience with the Spark framework, Hive‑based technologies, and other Big Data development tools. Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, Scala, or Python is required, with the ability to develop clean, production‑quality prototypes and core application components rapidly. Demonstrated success leading large‑scale projects from conception to deployment, with measurable business impact, is highly valued. A solid understanding of algorithms, data structures, data modeling, and core computer science principles is necessary. Experience in data governance, security, and compliance, along with leadership qualities such as collaboration, quick learning, and customer obsession, will be advantageous. Preferred qualifications include practical experience with Generative AI, collaboration with data science teams, and familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and version control systems like Git.

• Develop clean, scalable, and maintainable code following engineering best practices and platform standards.
• Drive system reliability improvements, automation, performance optimization, and operational excellence.
• Mentor junior engineers, conduct code reviews, and foster a culture of technical excellence and continuous learning.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex production issues, identify automation opportunities, and reduce operational risks.
• Develop comprehensive testing and quality assurance strategies to ensure robust data solutions.
• Collaborate closely with cross‑functional teams including data scientists, architects, and platform engineers to deliver critical capabilities.
• Proactively address data quality, performance scalability, governance, and security challenges.
• Participate in project planning, estimation, and delivery, balancing technical priorities with business needs.
