Job summary

Lindenwood University is seeking a Data Engineer in the Information Technology division to design and build scalable systems for collecting, storing, and analyzing data from diverse sources.

Qualifications

Job Summary

The data engineer is responsible for the design and build of systems for collecting, storing, and analyzing data at scale from disparate sources. This position collaborates with stakeholders across the university to ensure the system meets the needs of the organization and users. This position also provides technical support to department users, manages system upgrades and enhancements, and is responsible for security configuration. As part of the IT team in Enterprise Systems, the data engineer’s efforts will also adhere to direction from the chief information officer, chief data officer, director of enterprise systems, and other university administrators.

Essential Job Functions and Performance Indicators
Job Responsibilities and Execution
  • Collaborates with stakeholders across departments to understand the university data reporting and analysis objectives
  • Designs, implements, documents, and maintains a data lake according to university data requirements
  • Prepares university data environment for artificial intelligence (AI) adoption and use
  • Recommends solutions or alternative methods to meet requirements
  • Provides technical support to department users of the system
  • Develops and maintains system documentation, including user manuals, technical guides, and standard operating procedures
  • Manages any necessary system upgrades and enhancements, including testing and documentation updates
  • Troubleshoots issues related to the data access and manipulation and provide timely solutions
  • Develops and implements system security policies and procedures
  • Ensures compliance with university data governance and security policies
  • Develops algorithms to transform data into useful, actionable information
  • Create new data validation methods and data analysis tools
  • Monitors system and integration performance and identifies opportunities for improvement
  • Participates in project planning and implementation for system-related initiatives

Required Qualifications
  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered.
  • Additional requirements may be designated by position.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field
  • Minimum of 3 years working with Microsoft Data Products, including Azure Database and Power Platform tools.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • May be representative, but not all inclusive, of the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform this job competently.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures
  • Strong understanding of university processes and data in order to ensure correct implementation
  • Thorough knowledge of Microsoft data management tools
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Azure administration
  • Effective organizational and interpersonal skills including written and verbal communication skills
  • Understanding of data lake and star schema configuration and management
  • Strong understanding of database design, structure functions and processes and experience with databases tools
