POET is seeking a Data Engineer to build reliable analytics systems, ingest data from plants and markets, and empower researchers, grain buyers, marketers, and engineers to answer tough questions. The role collaborates across business units to align with project goals and deliver scalable data solutions.
You will develop ELT/ETL pipelines, ensure data quality, and support stakeholders with self-serve analytics tools in an on-site Sioux Falls environment.
The Data Engineer will build reliable systems to enable analytics and ensure the timely capture and dissemination of large amounts of business‑critical information. These systems will combine data from all corners of the business – including sensors in the bioethanol plants, commodity pricing data, financial data, and more – and empower research scientists, grain buyers, ethanol marketers, and engineers to answer tough questions.
Bachelor's or Associate's degree required. Degrees in Engineering, Computer Science, or a hard science are preferred; candidates with degrees in other fields must have relevant work experience. Experience ranges from 0–5 years (Entry Level), 5–10 years (Mid‑Level), to 10+ years (Senior). Candidates must be proficient in Agile methodologies, distributed systems, orchestration tools, high‑availability data systems, database selection and design, and DevOps practices such as infrastructure as code and automated deployment pipelines.
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to learn new programs is required.
This on‑site role requires the Data Engineer to drive a POET vehicle. A motor vehicle record check will be conducted during the pre‑employment process. The position operates primarily in an office environment, working at a personal computer that may be seated or standing. The Sioux Falls office workspace consists of an open‑concept design that promotes communication and collaboration.
