Job summary

Interstates is seeking a Data Engineer to design, build, and maintain data pipelines that power dashboards, analytics, and data products across the company. You’ll integrate data from multiple sources, ensure data quality, and collaborate with analysts, developers, and operational teams.

The role focuses on ETL/ELT, SQL-heavy data modeling, and supporting AI/ML-ready datasets. A hybrid work setup is available near Sioux Falls, Sioux Center, or Cincinnati with travel up to 10%.

Qualifications

Data Engineer builds and maintains the data foundation that powers dashboards, analytics, and data products across Interstates. This role integrates, transforms, models, and validates data from multiple sources while partnering with analysts, developers, and operational teams to create reliable, reusable data solutions.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain ETL/ELT processes and data pipelines.

• Integrate, clean, transform, and model data from multiple sources.

Preferred Skills

• Python or similar scripting experience.

• Experience with machine learning or AI/ML-ready datasets.

• Exposure to time-series, sensor, or industrial equipment data.

• Understanding of manufacturing KPIs and operational metrics.

• Experience with modern data orchestration and integration tools.

Knowledge & Expertise

• Experience in data engineering, analytics engineering, software development, or a related technical field.

• Strong SQL skills, including complex queries, joins, transformations, and data manipulation.

• Knowledge of ETL/ELT, data pipelines, data integration, and data modeling.

• Understanding of data quality, validation, governance, and lineage.

• Ability to work through ambiguous or messy data and independently troubleshoot problems.

• Strong ownership of data quality and downstream usability.

• Ability to learn new systems and technologies and engage SMEs when needed.

• Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Location: Selected candidate must be based or near one of the offices in Sioux Falls, SD, Sioux Center, IA or Cincinnati, OH. The candidate will have the ability to be hybrid near one of the listed offices.

Travel: The amount of travel will vary according to business requirements (may be up to 10%). This is an in person role and the selected candidate must be in one of the listed locations.
