Job summary

Interstates is hiring a Data Engineer to build and maintain the data foundations that power dashboards, analytics, and data products across our organization. You will integrate, transform, and model data from multiple sources, collaborate with analysts, developers, and operations teams, and ensure data quality and reliability for downstream analytics and AI/ML initiatives.

• Experience in data engineering, analytics engineering, software development, or related technical field.
• Strong SQL skills with complex queries, joins, transformations, and data manipulation.
• Knowledge of ETL/ELT, data pipelines, data integration, and data modeling.
• Understanding of data quality, validation, governance, and lineage.
• Ability to work through ambiguous or messy data and troubleshoot independently.
• Strong ownership of data quality and downstream usability.
• Ability to learn new systems and engage SMEs when needed.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Data Engineer builds and maintains the data foundation that powers dashboards, analytics, and data products across Interstates. This role integrates, transforms, models, and validates data from multiple sources while partnering with analysts, developers, and operational teams to create reliable, reusable data solutions.

Responsibilities

Preferred Skills

• Python or similar scripting experience.
• Experience with machine learning or AI/ML-ready datasets.
• Exposure to time-series, sensor, or industrial equipment data.
• Understanding of manufacturing KPIs and operational metrics.
• Experience with modern data orchestration and integration tools.

Knowledge & Expertise

• Experience in data engineering, analytics engineering, software development, or a related technical field.

Location

Selected candidate must be based or near one of the offices in Sioux Falls, SD, Sioux Center, IA or Omaha, NE. The candidate will have the ability to be hybrid near one of the listed offices.

Travel

The amount of travel will vary according to business requirements (may be up to 10%). This is an in person role and the selected candidate must be in one of the listed locations.
