NATO - North Atlantic Treaty Organisation seeks a Data Engineer to design and deliver technical solutions for integrating complex data to enable data-driven decisions. This fixed-term role supports MARCOM’s data integration journey in a multinational defence environment.

The position is based in Northwood, UK, at HQ MARCOM, offering a competitive monthly salary and a NATO Secret clearance requirement. The contract runs for three years with full-time hours and international collaboration.

Qualifications

  • 3 years of applying data science tools to support advanced analytics, ML and visualization.
  • Advanced degree in data science or related field with 2 years relevant experience, or equivalent professional qualification with 4 years post-related experience.
  • Experience delivering data integration using AI/ML tools (Databricks, Watson, Microsoft Cognitive Toolkit, TensorFlow).
  • Experience designing mathematical/statistical models to resolve business challenges.

Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver technical solutions to integrate complex data for data-driven decisions.
  • Lead data engineering and data integration projects in MARCOM.
  • Apply AI/ML and data modelling to strengthen situational awareness.
  • Support standardisation of data engineering practices across projects.

In order to strengthen its awareness of the maritime environment, HQ MARCOM is pursuing a number of initiatives to improve maritime situational awareness and strengthen operational decision making.

We are seeking a number of highly motivated individuals with skills and experience in delivering projects that enable data-driven decisions through improved data integration, engineering and analysis. Role Purpose

The primary purpose of this role is to design and deliver the technical solutions required to integrate complex data and enable data-driven decisions.

Overview

This is a fixed-term 3-year role which will play a critical part in the delivery of critical data integration projects and contribute to MARCOM’s journey to standardise technical practice and lift technical capability in the fields of project management, data engineering and data science.

Areas of Focus
  • Project Delivery - Problems and opportunities have been defined, business requirements understood and technical solutions built, tested and deployed to enable desired project outcomes.
  • Problem Solving - MARCOM is leveraging complex algorithms, data science workflows and data modelling and AI to solve business problems and deepen situational awareness.
  • Data Engineering Maturity - MARCOM has developed and adopted critical data engineering methods which standard our approach to the collection, storage, processing, pipeline management and governance of data.
  • Capability Resilience - MARCOM has developed and adopted the appropriate architecture (policies, procedures, guidelines and ways of working) to strengthen maturity and enable continuous improvement in the areas of data integration.
Your Qualifications and Experience
Essential:
  • 3 years’ experience of applying data science tools to support advanced data analytics, machine learning and data visualisation.
  • Educated to an advanced Degree level in data science/data analytics or a closely related field and 2 years function related experience; or
  • Higher Secondary education and completed advanced vocational training in that discipline leading to a professional qualification or professional accreditation with 4 years post related experience.
  • Demonstrable experience of delivering data integration using AI and or Machine Learning Tools e.g. Databricks, Watson, Microsoft Cognitive Toolkit, TensorFlow.
  • Demonstrable experience of designing mathematical and statistical models to resolve business challenges.
  • Demonstrable experience applying data science, analytics and data integration tools/programming languages on real-world datasets e.g. Python, R, KNIME, Splunk, Geo data.
Desirable:
  • Industry recognised qualification / accreditation in relevant field.
  • Experience of using big data ecosystems e.g. Hadoop, Spark and/or MapReduce.
  • Experience of working in NATO or similar multi-national defence / security sector.
