Job summary

NC DHHS is seeking an experienced Data Engineer to support cloud-based data engineering and analytics initiatives in Raleigh, NC. You will design, develop, and optimize scalable data pipelines and analytics solutions, including ETL/ELT processes using Azure Synapse Analytics and Azure Data Factory.

You will build data ingestion workflows and integrate data with Salesforce, work with Curam/Oracle as needed, and develop semantic layers to support Power BI dashboards and reporting.

Qualifications

• Experience as a Data Engineer focused on cloud-based data engineering and analytics initiatives.
• Strong SQL, data modeling, and data quality skills required.
• Experience with data pipelines, ETL/ELT and data integration across systems.

• NC Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is seeking an experienced Data Engineer to support cloud-based data engineering and analytics initiatives.
• The role focuses on designing, developing, and optimizing scalable data pipelines and analytics solutions.
• Develop and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines using Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Data Factory, and Azure services.
• Analyze source systems and design efficient data ingestion and transformation processes.
• Build data ingestion workflows and integrations with Salesforce.
• Work with Salesforce APIs for data extraction, integration, schema alignment, and processing.
• Support integrations with Curam/Oracle and other enterprise source systems.
• Develop and maintain scalable data models for reporting and analytics.
• Create data transformations and semantic layers to support Power BI dashboards and reporting.
• Develop and optimize SQL queries used across data pipelines and analytics solutions.
• Optimize Azure Synapse pipelines, storage, and workloads for performance and reliability.
• Monitor data pipelines and identify opportunities for improving efficiency and cost.
• Troubleshoot pipeline failures, data integration issues, and data quality problems.
• Troubleshoot Salesforce API connectivity and data ingestion issues.
• Support Power BI dataset and dataflow refresh processes.

• Ensure data pipelines and solutions follow appropriate security, governance, and quality standards.
• Perform data validation, reconciliation, and quality checks across integrated systems.
• Document data pipelines, source-to-target mappings, transformations, and technical processes.
• Participate in testing, deployment, troubleshooting, and ongoing production support.
• Work independently while effectively collaborating with cross-functional teams.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, SQL, and communication skills are required.
• Experience with Azure Synapse, Azure Data Factory, Power BI, Salesforce, SQL, and cloud data platforms is highly preferred.
