Qualifications

• 2+ years of data engineering experience.

Responsibilities

• Investigate large and complex datasets to understand structure and quality.

I’m working with a high-growth data and technology company in New York that is looking for a Data Engineer to join its growing team.

This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys working with large, complex datasets and wants to have genuine ownership over the data they work with.

You’ll sit between Data Engineering, Data Science and Product, working closely with technical and commercial teams to turn ambiguous problems into scalable solutions.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Investigating large and complex datasets to understand their structure, relationships, coverage and quality
• Designing data models and derived datasets that can support real-world product use cases
• Building and operating ingestion and transformation pipelines
• Implementing data validation, monitoring, observability and backfills
• Identifying and evaluating new data sources and finding ways to extract useful signals from imperfect data
• Taking ownership of specific data domains and becoming the internal subject matter expert
• Working closely with Data Scientists, Platform Engineers and customer-facing teams
• Translating ambiguous business questions into scalable, production-ready data products
• Building data that directly supports commercially valuable products and customer use cases

What They’re Looking For

• 2+ years of Data Engineering experience, although more senior candidates are also welcome
• Strong Python and SQL skills
• Experience with Snowflake
• Experience with dbt and/or Dagster
• Experience building production data pipelines and transformation workflows
• Strong understanding of data modelling and working with large datasets
• Someone who enjoys investigating problems and working with unfamiliar data
• A highly analytical, curious and first-principles approach to problem solving
• Ability to work independently and take genuine ownership of data domains

Exceptional junior candidates with strong academic backgrounds and a steep learning curve will also be considered.
