STAFFXPERT LLC is seeking a Data Engineer on behalf of our client in Houston, TX. This is a hands-on consulting opportunity supporting a fast-paced energy management environment focused on data engineering, data pipelines, data warehousing, and Energy Trading and Risk Management (ETRM) systems. The ideal candidate will bring strong expertise in Microsoft SQL Server, SSIS, Python, data modeling, and enterprise data integration, along with a solid understanding of energy trading processes.
Design, develop, and maintain scalable data pipelines and ETL solutions using SQL Server, SSIS, Python, and related technologies.
Develop and optimize SQL Server databases, stored procedures, queries, and data integration processes.
Build and maintain enterprise reporting solutions using SSRS or comparable reporting platforms.
Integrate and transform data from SQL Server, Oracle, and other internal and external data sources.
Develop Python-based solutions for ETL, API integrations, automation, data transformation, and large-scale data processing.
Design and support data warehouses and dimensional data models following data quality and governance best practices.
Work with business intelligence and visualization tools such as Power BI and Tableau.
Support data related to energy trading, market data, pricing, forecasting, scheduling, settlements, and risk management.
Assess, cleanse, validate, and integrate large and complex datasets.
Collaborate with technical and business stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver effective data solutions.
Troubleshoot data and application issues, identify root causes, and implement sustainable solutions.
Maintain technical documentation, data dictionaries, process documentation, and operational procedures.
Work effectively in an Agile environment while supporting multiple initiatives and changing business priorities.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, MIS, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft SQL Server, including database design, query optimization, performance tuning, stored procedures, and ETL development.
Strong SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) experience.
Experience with SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) or comparable enterprise reporting platforms.
Hands-on experience with Oracle databases and SQL development.
Strong Python development experience focused on data engineering, ETL, APIs, automation, and data transformation.
Proficiency with Python libraries such as Pandas and NumPy.
Experience designing and supporting data pipelines integrating multiple data sources.
Strong knowledge of data warehousing, dimensional modeling, data governance, and data quality practices.
Experience with ETRM systems and energy trading processes is required.
Strong analytical, troubleshooting, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Ability to communicate complex technical concepts effectively to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Experience working with time-series, market, pricing, forecasting, financial, or commodity trading data.
Experience with Power BI and/or Tableau.
Familiarity with Microsoft Power Apps and Power Automate.
Experience with energy market operations, trading, scheduling, settlements, or risk management.
Experience supporting data-intensive applications within the energy or commodities industry.
Strong technical documentation and data management experience.
This is a hybrid position requiring 3 days onsite in Houston, TX. Candidates should be local to the Houston area and comfortable working onsite as required.
