We're not just changing craft brewing—we're redefining what's possible across alternative proteins, biofuels, and beyond. Every pipeline you build, every query you optimize, and every dashboard you create directly impacts how industries harness the power of fermentation.
About the Role
We’re seeking a hands-on, Data Engineer to join our growing data team. In this role, you'll design, build, and maintain robust data pipelines and contribute to a data enterprise that powers analytics, reporting, and machine learning across the organization. You’ll work closely with data analysts, product managers, and software engineers to ensure high data quality and reliability across our systems. This position allows for remote work and will require occasional travel to the home office in Durham, North Carolina or other locations.
Key Responsibilities
  • Design, implement, and maintain scalable ETL/ELT pipelines using Python and SQL
  • Build and optimize data models and data marts for analytics and reporting
  • Fulfill ad hoc data requests with accuracy and efficiency
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to understand data requirements and translate them into technical solutions
  • Monitor and troubleshoot data pipelines to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and reliability
  • Quickly and accurately troubleshoot data processes, resolve bugs, and address data quality issues to ensure optimal processing uptime
  • Support the integration of new data sources and services into our data platform
  • Work within a cloud data environment (AWS preferred, Azure acceptable)
  • Contribute to documentation, data cataloging, and data quality initiatives
What We're Looking For
  • 3–5 years of hands-on experience as a data engineer or in a similar data-focused role
  • Strong SQL skills (e.g., joins, window functions, optimization techniques)
  • Proficiency in Python for data processing, scripting, and automation
  • Experience with cloud data platforms (AWS preferred, Azure acceptable)
  • Familiarity with data warehouse and data lake concepts
  • Strong attention to detail to ensure accuracy in data pulls, flows, and reporting
  • Ability to troubleshoot and debug data workflows efficiently and independently
  • Understanding of ETL/ELT best practices and orchestration tools (e.g., Airflow, Dagster, dbt, or similar)
  • Excellent professional communication and collaboration skills, especially across product, engineering, and analytics teams
  • Experience working with version control systems (e.g., Git)
  • Comfortable operating semi-independently and prioritizing tasks in a dynamic environment
  • Experience with BI tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, Looker)
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States
  • Must have a valid passport or real-ID and the ability to travel within the US
Nice to Have
  • Familiarity with data governance practices and tools
  • Exposure to data observability and quality monitoring tools (e.g., Monte Carlo, Great Expectations)
  • Understanding of software engineering best practices (e.g., testing, CI/CD for data)
  • Experience supporting cross-functional initiatives with product, analytics, and engineering teams
  • Experience in a rapidly changing start-up environment
Why Join Us
  • Make a real impact by contributing to a modern, cloud-native data stack
  • Work with a collaborative, data-driven team that values initiative and creativity
  • Opportunity to grow your career and expand into advanced analytics or data architecture
  • Competitive salary, benefits, and flexibility in work location – this position is open to both local (Durham, NC) and remote (within the United States) candidates
