Job summary

Sally Beauty Supply LLC in Plano, TX is seeking a seasoned Data Engineer to design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines on the Databricks Lakehouse Platform. You will shape ingestion, transformation patterns, and governance practices to support reporting, analytics, AI, and ML initiatives.

The role emphasizes hands-on PySpark, Spark SQL, Delta Lake, and orchestration with Databricks Workflows and Jobs, plus collaboration with stakeholders across the business.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, software engineering, data engineering, or related technical field.
• 3+ years of experience in data engineering or software engineering.
• 1+ years hands-on with the Databricks Lakehouse Platform.
• Experience with cloud storage (ADLS, S3) and at least one cloud provider (Azure/AWS/GCP).
• Experience supporting enterprise analytics platforms.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable data pipelines on the Databricks Lakehouse Platform.
• Build ETL/ELT processes using Spark, PySpark, Spark SQL, and Delta Lake.
• Design and implement Medallion Architecture (Bronze, Silver, Gold).
• Develop batch and streaming ingestion from enterprise systems and cloud platforms.
• Create reusable transformation frameworks with PySpark and SQL.
• Optimize Spark jobs and Delta Lake tables for performance and cost.
• Configure Unity Catalog for data governance, security, and lineage.
• Develop workflows with Databricks Workflows and Jobs.
• Support CDC and incremental data processing.
• Build semantic data models for reporting, analytics, AI, and ML.
• Implement automated testing, monitoring, and alerting; document standards.

Join Sally Beauty Supply LLC and help build reliable enterprise data foundations that power reporting, analytics, AI, and machine learning initiatives. This hybrid Data Engineering role is based in Plano, Texas (working from the Legacy West Support Center) and supports the design, development, and ongoing maintenance of data solutions on the Databricks Lakehouse Platform.

You will be responsible for constructing scalable data pipelines, shaping ingestion and transformation patterns, and collaborating with stakeholders to support downstream business needs. Along the way, you’ll apply modern governance and orchestration practices, including Unity Catalog and Databricks Workflows and Jobs.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable data pipelines using the Databricks Lakehouse Platform
• Build ETL/ELT processes using Apache Spark, PySpark, Spark SQL, and Delta Lake
• Design and implement Medallion Architecture (Bronze, Silver, Gold)
• Develop batch and streaming ingestion pipelines from enterprise systems, APIs, and cloud platforms
• Create reusable transformation frameworks using PySpark and SQL
• Optimize Spark jobs and Delta Lake tables for performance, scalability, and cost efficiency
• Configure and support Unity Catalog for data governance, security, and lineage
• Develop workflows using Databricks Workflows and Jobs
• Support Change Data Capture (CDC) and incremental data processing
• Build semantic data models supporting reporting, analytics, AI, and machine learning
• Implement automated testing, monitoring, and alerting for data pipelines
• Create technical documentation, metadata, and operational standards
• Research and recommend new technologies and platform enhancements

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, Data Engineering, or a related technical field
• 3+ years of experience in Data Engineering or Software Engineering
• 1+ years of hands‑on experience with the Databricks Lakehouse Platform
• Experience with Azure Data Lake Storage (ADLS), Amazon S3, or similar cloud storage platforms
• Experience with Microsoft Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud Platform (Azure preferred)
• Experience supporting enterprise analytics platforms such as Power BI
• Retail, merchandising, supply chain, or eCommerce experience preferred

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

The role is based in an office and includes environments such as meeting and training rooms, retail stores, and residences or commercial vehicles, with normal safety precautions. The work is sedentary; most tasks involve sitting, with occasional walking, standing, bending, and carrying light items such as papers and files. No special physical demands are required.
