Overview

Structure

The Data Developer is an exempt (salaried) position employed by the University of Cincinnati Foundation (UCF) and reports to the Executive Director, Applications, Data & Integrations.

Focus

The Data Developer is responsible for designing and developing data solutions, providing reliable and valid data integrations, database management, performance optimization, and automating processes and scheduling tools as identified. As part of the Foundation Information Technology (FIT) team, this role works collaboratively across the Foundation business units and partners to maximize the value of data assets to support strategic decision making and operational effectiveness.

Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, implement, and administer data pipelines, databases, and applications that meet organizational, operational, and strategic requirements with a focus on scalability, performance, integrity, and reliability within supported systems.
  • Engineer processes to ingest, transform, and consolidate data from multiple sources inclusive of databases, API's, flat files, and cloud-based platforms.
  • Establish and optimize both relational and non-relational databases to facilitate efficient storage, retrieval, and manipulation of substantial data volumes.
  • Develop, design, implement, and sustain ETL (extract, transform, load) workflows and processes to prepare data for reporting while ensuring optimal data quality and uniformity.
  • Enhance database query indexing and processing workflows for maximum efficiency and resolve any performance issues.
  • Prepare documentation aligning and detailing data models, processes, workflows, and best practices to support sustainability.
  • Implement and uphold organizational and regulatory standards including privacy, security, and compliance as appropriate.
  • Maintain awareness of emerging technologies and methodologies in the data domain while proactively integrating enhancements when beneficial.
  • Develop real-time data pipelines for customer reporting, analytics, and actionable insights.
  • Coordinate the migration of legacy databases to cloud-based platforms ensuring seamless transition and data reliability.
  • Ensure quality assurance protocols to detect anomalies, missing data, and inconsistencies thereby enhancing the reliability of business intelligence outputs.
  • Other duties, as assigned.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related discipline is required, with 1-3 years of experience.
  • Experience using and supporting the Blackbaud suite of products, including SDK, in a philanthropic organization strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated expertise in programming languages such as .NET/C#, SQL, and Python.
  • Hands-on experience with database management systems including, but not limited to, MySQL and SQL Server.
  • Practical knowledge of ETL tools and data integration platforms.
  • Familiarity with big data technologies and cloud-based data platforms.
  • Strong foundation with data modeling normalization and schema design principles.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop efficient maintainable code and optimize data processes.
  • Experience with version control systems and implementation of continuous integration (CI) and continuous deployment (CD) pipelines for data services.
  • Capacity to operate efficiently in dynamic environments and adapt to evolving priorities and requirements.
  • Demonstrated success in cross-functional collaboration and fostering a culture of innovation and shared knowledge.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, effective communication skills and documentation skills with strong attention to detail.
What We Offer

The anticipated starting salary range for the Data Developer role is $80,000 to $95,000 annually. When determining final offer amount the UC Foundation considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, external market data, as well as, market and business considerations when making compensation decisions.
