Job summary

Blue Shield of CA is seeking a Data Analyst-Health, Principal to provide consultative services and complex analysis supporting provider network performance and strategic initiatives. You will partner with multiple business units and act as a thought partner and expert to drive insights and recommendations.

This hybrid, in-office role in Long Beach requires leadership, collaboration, and the ability to influence stakeholders without direct reporting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent with 4 years of relevant experience; Master’s degree preferred
• 10+ years of experience in Health Care (managed care, academic, or government payer)
• Advanced Excel modeling and formulas
• Experience with Access, Tableau, and SAS preferred
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills, including presenting to leaders
• Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities
• Ability to work with diverse teams and influence stakeholders without direct reporting
• Ability to work independently with minimal direction
• Broad knowledge of project management is preferred

Your Role

The Network Performance Analysis and Contracts team focuses on provider network performance analysis, reporting, and consulting. The Data Analyst-Health, Principal role will report to the Senior Director, Provider Services-Network. In this role you will provide consultative services and support for various strategic and tactical initiatives and projects. This role will provide complex analysis for insight and recommendation and collaboration with various business units as a thought partner and expert.

Your Knowledge and Experience

• Requires a Bachelor's degree or High School Diploma/GED and 4 years of additional relevant experience in lieu of a degree. A Master's degree (MPH, MBA, MS, MA) is preferred
• Requires 10 years of experience in Health Care (managed care, academic, or government payer)
• Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel (i.e. ability to model, use formulas, etc.) is preferred
• Experience with Microsoft Access (i.e. link tables, run queries, etc.), Tableau, and SAS is preferred
• Excellent interpersonal skills, communication, and presentation skills. Including previous experience in presenting to leaders
• Exceptional problem-solving and analytical skills
• Ability to work effectively with diverse teams to come up with the best solution and move people and organizations to act
• Ability to influence leaders and stakeholders with no direct reporting relationship
• Ability to work independently, proactively, and with little direction
• Broad knowledge of project management is preferred

This role requires employees to be in-office based on our hybrid workplace model, balancing purposeful in-person collaboration with flexibility. For most teams, this means coming into the office two days each week.
Employees living more than 50 miles from an office location will work with their manager to determine in-office time based on business need.
