Job description

Are you the person your friends call when they need to build a custom PC or upgrade their graphics card? If you have a passion for computer hardware and love taking machines apart just to put them back together, we want to turn your hobby into a career. You don’t need years of corporate IT experience—if you know your way around a motherboard and a CPU cooler, we will teach you the rest!

Job Purpose:

The Data Center Technician ensures that server, storage, network, power, and cooling systems perform optimally. By maintaining the Data Center this role would prevent loss of data, damage to equipment, and ensure the 5 9’s principal (99.999% uptime environment). Our data center maintains several work shifts and this position is anticipated to primarily work 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM .

Responsibilities:
  • Racking, stacking, and physically assembling servers and network equipment (cable management enthusiasts welcome!).
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose enterprise servers and network equipment. If you know how to swap out dead RAM, upgrade a CPU, or replace a failing hard drive on a desktop PC, you'll be doing the exact same thing here at an enterprise scale.
  • Installation and documentation of cabling for network connectivity (Ethernet, Fiber)
  • Provide assistance to Data Center Provisioning, Data Center Infrastructure, and Network Engineering as needed
  • Maintain safety and security protocols, and clean work environments within the Data Center
  • Escort sub-contractors/vendors as needed
  • Asset tracking of inventory using internal tools for all hardware installed in the Data Center
  • Identify assets within the RMA period and provide them to Provisioning for replacement
  • Ensure that proper power and cooling to all I.T. equipment is provided by the installation of PDU’s, blanking plates, sealing floor tiles, and cold aisle containment zones
  • Collaboration with domestic and international customers or support teams to ensure clear communication via internal ticketing systems
  • Maintain SLA’s for ticket resolutions to deliver fast solutions to our customers
  • Local and domestic travel to maintain equipment colocation(s)
  • Potential international travel for support and training
  • Working shifts in a 24/7 environment in a rotational schedule including nights, holidays, weekends (typically approximately every 7 weeks), and on-call, with punctual attendance and attentiveness to the schedule
  • Contribute to internal knowledgebase to maintain up-to-date documentation
  • Change management including defragmenting racks, IT equipment moves, and planned events
  • Assist with other duties assigned by Data Center Service Team Leader or Head of Operations
Required Qualifications:
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience
  • Hands-on experience working with computer hardware. (Have you built your own computer from scratch? Have you revived an old PC by replacing the motherboard or power supply? That counts! Tell us about it in your application)
  • CompTIA A+ certification, Network+ certification, OR equivalent hands-on hardware hobbyist experience.
  • Demonstrate strong spoken and written communication skills
  • A strong fundamental understanding of how computer hardware components work together (Motherboards, CPUs, RAM, SSD/HDDs, Power Supplies).
  • General knowledge of Windows and Linux operating systems and office suites (Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to travel to other locations in the Kansas City area using company-provided transportation to our local colocation(s)
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Teamwork experience in a 24/7 rotational shift work environment
