Job summary

Bluebird Fiber in Kansas City is seeking a DC Facility Technician to install, maintain, and support data center operations. The role focuses on maintaining controlled environments for colocation/server operations, including mechanical/electrical systems, access control, and network cabling.

You will work with a collaborative team, perform site walkthroughs and tests, coordinate installations, and document procedures. Residency preferred near the Data Center; flexibility to respond after hours.

Qualifications

• Electrical and/or mechanical repair and installation experience.
• Basic network skills (OSI Layers 1-3, Ethernet, RJ45, single mode fiber).
• Windows operating system familiarity.
• Knowledge of enterprise servers and networking equipment.
• Excellent listening, oral, and written communication skills.
• Ability to follow procedures under pressure.
• Self-motivated with minimal supervision.
• Ability to lift 50 lbs.
• Knowledge of basic electrical requirements (KW, Amps, phases).
• Team oriented and able to work with others.
• Familiarity with IT hardware installation, cabling, and basic troubleshooting.

Responsibilities

• Monitor, analyze and resolve mechanical, electrical, and monitoring issues in a timely manner.
• Coordinate and perform company and customer installations, testing and acceptance.
• Conduct daily site walkthroughs including event log entries.
• Conduct supervised generator run and load tests, including event log entries.
• Maintain documentation: MOPs, testing acceptance, cross connect/port assignments, BMS, DCIM, access control, and network services.
• Oversee contractor activities to ensure compliance.
• Serve as on-site point of contact.
• Respond to network and infrastructure issues after hours.
