Job summary

SpaceX is seeking a Data Center Technician to join its IT Infrastructure team in Brownsville, TX. You will deploy and maintain data center infrastructure, including servers, networks, HVAC and power systems, and you will monitor environmental conditions to optimize uptime.

Responsibilities include rack and cable management, lifecycle handling of data center hardware, documenting procedures, and collaborating with supply chain and vendors to procure equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and resolve networking, compute and rack power distribution incidents in multiple data centers
  • Manage complete lifecycle for data center hardware including selection, deployment, operation, maintenance and decommission
  • Physically rack and cable data center equipment
  • Track and logically organize the physical storage of incoming data center equipment
  • Perform quality assurance testing and resolve recurring issues
  • Establish, schedule and track preventative maintenance procedures
  • Update documentation, including interconnect drawings, rack layouts and operation procedures
  • Monitor the environmental conditions and power/cooling systems of a data center to ensure they are optimized for servers, switches, storage arrays, and other devices
  • Maintain in depth quantitative performance and utilization data for detailed reporting and analytics to drive continuous improvement opportunities
  • Work with the supply chain team and vendors to evaluate, procure and manage inventory of data center equipment

DATA CENTER TECHNICIAN

Join SpaceX's IT Infrastructure team as a Data Center Technician, where you'll play a critical role in building and maintaining multiple data centers. As a key member of our team, you'll deploy and maintain the infrastructure that powers our mission critical systems, including servers, networks, HVAC and power systems. The ideal candidate has experience working with various types of hardware architecture and understands the strength of each.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Monitor and resolve networking, compute and rack power distribution infrastructure incidents in multiple data centers
  • Manage complete lifecycle for data center hardware including selection, deployment, operation, maintenance and decommission

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High school diploma or equivalency certificate
  • Professional experience working in a data center environment or with enterprise grade IT hardware
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Certifications related to IT infrastructure such as CompTIA Servier+, CompTIA Network+, CCNA, and CDCMP
  • Experience with data center infrastructure management (DCIM) including tools to monitor, measure, manage, and/or control data center utilization
  • In-depth knowledge of data center environments, servers, and network equipment
  • Extensive experience installing, monitoring, and maintaining data center equipment
  • Strong Linux skills including:
    • Navigating the system's directories and filing system
    • Manipulating files in the Linux shell
    • User permission configuration
    • Package installation and software management
    • Ability to identify and apply different filesystem types
    • Using Linux commands for process management
    • Basic troubleshooting and debugging
    • Bash or other scripting
  • Power and data center cooling capacity planning experience
  • Exceptional analytical and troubleshooting skills
  • Experience working with multiple vendor hardware architectures
  • Experience working with server management tools such as HPE iLO, Cisco CIMC and Dell iDRAC
  • Willingness and ability to respond to incidents after hours
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Willingness to work overtime hours and weekends as needed
  • Willing to participate in after-hours on-call rotation
  • Willing to travel to other sites for surge support and systems familiarization
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs
