Job summary

ONNEC Group in New Jersey seeks a Data Center Team Lead Engineer to manage IMACD work, media handling, and Smart Hands across client sites. You will coordinate vendor escorts, ticket flow, and resource allocation, ensuring service excellence and SLA adherence.

The role requires experience in banking IT environments, data center moves, and structured cabling, with leadership responsibility over engineers and service providers. Hybrid work across NJ sites is available.

Qualifications

  • Banking IT environment experience required.

We are looking for a Lead Engineer who will demonstrate professionalism, flexibility, and resourcefulness to facilitate IMACD, Logistics, Media Handling, Tape Operations, Equipment Audits, various types of Smart Hands support, Vendor Escorts, and project-related activities across multiple client sites. The Lead Engineer will manage a team of dedicated engineers and service provider field engineers, ensuring service performance compliance and the consistent execution of manufacturer and client best-practice processes and procedures. They will foster collaboration, support team development, and drive operational excellence across their area of responsibility.

What you’ll be doing as our Data Center Team Lead Engineer:
  • Demonstrate the ability to effectively manage and deliver the required workloads from home and from the designated data centers and offices in New Jersey as required.
  • Ensure business-critical request activities received through ServiceNow and email are managed and delivered in line with the respective SLAs and in coordination with the relevant Data Center Operations teams and field engineers.
  • Be available to participate in daily pipeline calls, assisting with the prioritisation and scheduling of activities.
  • Adequately resource and manage engineers to deliver requests when you are unavailable to do so personally or when additional resources are required to complete activities.
  • Be available to receive and coordinate Emergency and Standard Vendor Escort services, Monday through Sunday.
  • Assist US-based regional teams with ticket flow management, resource allocation, and service delivery requirements where required.
  • Manage activity and resource trackers to ensure accurate scheduling, reporting, and financial compliance.
Activity Responsibilities
  • Deliver IMACD services (installs, moves, adds, changes, and decommissions).
  • Manage media handling, tape operations, inventory audits, data wiping, media destruction, and IT stores.
  • Ship and receive equipment.
  • Provide vendor escort services.
  • Perform Smart Hands support, including server troubleshooting, hardware replacements, power cycling, and connectivity checks.
  • Complete cabling, patching, and connectivity-related tasks.
Service Responsibilities
  • Manage ServiceNow ticket queues and ensure SLA compliance.
  • Maintain inventory records and asset management systems.
  • Manage scheduling, resource allocation, reporting, and activity trackers.
  • Monitor and resolve service issues to prevent SLA breaches.
  • Communicate professionally with clients, engineers, and stakeholders.
  • Ensure activities are adequately staffed and delivered on time.
  • Support project planning through surveys, audits, and infrastructure assessments.
  • Complete compliance and best-practice training requirements.
  • Support, train, and mentor engineers to maintain service standards.
  • Coordinate activities with client operations teams, service desk teams, and service management.
  • Escalate and help resolve performance or service delivery issues.
  • Maintain accurate records, inventory data, and reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with Onnec and client quality and operational standards.
What we’re looking for in our Data Center Team Lead Engineer:
Essential
  • Experience working in a banking IT environment.
  • Experience in a Data Center moves, adds, and changes environment (IT Hardware deployment).
  • Experience in structured cabling installation, fault finding, and testing with fluke test equipment.
  • Thorough knowledge of structured cabling standards and cable types (FTP, UTP & Optical Fiber)
  • Understanding of the criticality of support in a financial sector
  • An ability to assimilate technical details required for project delivery in a short time frame and in a pressurized environment.
  • Extensive understanding of complex change management and service delivery processes.
  • Extensive knowledge of ITSM Ticketing Systems
  • Extensive knowledge of Asset Management and DCIM systems
  • Prioritization skills and multitasking ability.
  • Self-starter, organized, detail-oriented, and able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent MS Office Suite experience (Outlook, Excel, Word, etc.)
  • An ability to assimilate technical details required for project delivery in a short time frame and in a pressurized environment.
  • Availability to work on on-call shift rotation for emergency visitor escorting
Preferred
  • ITIL, CCNA, BICSi Qualified
  • Previous training/qualifications within the Information Technology field.
