Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Data Center Project Manager with strong MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) expertise to lead mission-critical data center infrastructure projects from design through construction and commissioning. The ideal candidate will manage project scope, schedule, budget and quality while coordinating multidisciplinary teams, contractors, and vendors to deliver reliable, code-compliant systems that meet uptime and performance targets.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end delivery of MEP and infrastructure projects for data centers, including planning, design coordination, construction, commissioning, and turnover.
- Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, cost forecasts and resource plans; drive to meet milestones and control costs.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary teamsmechanical, electrical, civil, controls, commissioning agents, and third-party contractors to ensure integrated design and installation.
- Manage contractors and subcontractors: scope definition, RFPs, bid evaluation, contracts, change orders, and performance monitoring.
- Oversee installation and quality assurance of critical MEP systems including HVAC, chilled water, piping, pumps, sheet metal, plumbing and associated infrastructure.
- Ensure projects meet applicable codes, standards and best practices for mission-critical facilities (e.g., ASHRAE, NFPA, local building codes).
- Lead commissioning and startup activities in partnership with commissioning agents to validate system performance, reliability and redundancy requirements.
- Identify, assess and mitigate project risks affecting schedule, cost, safety and availability; implement contingency plans.
- Manage procurement and vendor relationships for long-lead equipment, coordinate delivery and staging, and resolve technical issues with manufacturers.
- Prepare regular project status reports and present progress, risks and mitigation plans to internal and external stakeholders.
- Promote construction site safety and enforce adherence to safety programs and procedures.
- Drive continuous improvement by capturing lessons learned, implementing best practices and supporting operational readiness and handover documentation.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or related discipline preferred; equivalent experience will be considered.
- Minimum 710 years of progressively responsible experience managing MEP projects in data centers, mission-critical facilities, or heavy industrial environments.
- Demonstrated technical knowledge of MEP systems: mechanical/HVAC, chilled water systems, pumps, piping, sheet metal, plumbing and air handling systems.
- Proven track record delivering complex construction projects on schedule and within budget in mission-critical environments.
- Familiarity with data center infrastructure, redundancy topologies, and operational requirements for high-availability facilities.
- Strong knowledge of applicable codes and standards (e.g., ASHRAE, NFPA, local building codes) and experience supporting code inspections and permitting.
- Experience with commissioning processes and tools; ability to coordinate and validate system startup and testing.
- Excellent contract management, procurement and vendor negotiation skills.
- Strong communication, leadership and stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally and manage multiple concurrent priorities.
- Proficiency with project management tools (MS Project, Primavera or similar), BIM/CAD coordination and Microsoft Office suite.
- Certifications preferred: PMP, PE, LEED, BICSI or commissioning credentials; NICET or other technical certifications a plus.
- Willingness to travel to project sites and work in construction environments; ability to respond to operational needs during commissioning or emergency situations.
