Job summary

Johnson Controls Inc. is seeking experienced HVAC mechanics to join our data center and commercial service teams in Abilene, TX.

The role focuses on maintaining and repairing light to heavy commercial HVAC systems, including chillers, rooftop units, pumps, and ammonia/hydrocarbon systems. Applicants should have extensive HVAC troubleshooting experience, be able to repair centrifugal compressors and steam turbines, and hold relevant safety certifications.

Qualifications

• Minimum of eight (8) years commercial/industrial mechanical troubleshooting experience in HVAC and related verticals.
• Able to repair centrifugal compressors, steam turbines, screw chillers and ammonia/hydrocarbon components.
• Maintain ammonia and hydrocarbon safety training certification.
• Able to install complete systems incl. chillers, rooftops and mechanical systems.

Responsibilities

• Provide maintenance, repair and replacement services on commercial heating and cooling systems.
• Work with local market mechanics and Servicemen; provide on‑the‑job training when needed.
• Provide quotes and recommendations to ensure facility runs efficiently and upsell where appropriate.
• Support customers with troubleshooting, installation, and service during commissioning and aftersales.

How will you do it

We are looking for skilled HVAC Mechanics who have practical work experience in their trade, (HVAC piping, plumbing, pipefitting and /or mechanical equipment service industry).

Mechanics must have practical work experience in light commercial or commercial mechanical equipment. May be required to satisfactorily pass an examination to identify special skills. Scope of work shall be limited to commercial HVACR service. Servicemen may partner with Journeymen in the repair of centrifugal, steam turbines, and absorption machines, open‑drive screw chillers and ammonia systems. Perform maintenance, repair and replacement services on commercial heating and cooling systems.

Provide our customers with the highest level of service to solve facility inefficiencies and resolve service‑related items. As a trusted advisor to our customers, you will provide solutions and outcomes at the time of commissioning and aftermarket service. Provide recommendations and solutions to ensure facility is running efficiently to include upselling opportunities. Provide quotes to support recommendations and solutions.

What we look for

Required

• Must be a member or willing to join the United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipe Fitting Industry of the United States and Canada, AFL-CIO.
• Be a dedicated member of a North America Branch team willing to learn and be responsible for system trouble shooting, repair and aftermarket services for this fast‑growing business.
• Minimum of Eight (8) years Commercial and/or industrial, mechanical troubleshooting experience in the HVAC industry and Industrial Petrochemical, or Data Center vertical environments. This includes Rooftop units, pumps, fans, towers, boilers, chillers, compressors, plumbing.
• Able to repair centrifugal compressors, steam turbines, screw chillers and/or ammonia / hydrocarbon system components.
• Maintain ammonia and hydrocarbon safety training certification.
• Able to install complete systems, (Chillers, Rooftop Units, plumbing and all supporting mechanical systems).
• Mechanical shaft alignment using dial indicators, laser etc. of pumps, fans, Compressors.
• Able to use vibration equipment to trouble shoot drivelines.
• Travel maybe required 10% to 20% to support Branch Customers activities, trouble shooting, installation and repair.
• You will be required to pass a knowledge examination to assess proficiencies.

• Universal EPA refrigerants license, applicable state or local licensing, and valid driver's license

*This is a Bargaining Unit Position.

**This position is based in Abilene, tX

Pay Rate: $31.00 Hourly rate determined by the CBA/rate sheet. Benefits are provided through a local labor union aligned with a collective bargaining agreement.

This is a Bargaining Unit Position but is subject to all pre‑hiring screening of JCI. With successful performance, JCI may recommend you to the Union Local apprenticeship program, as well as continued employment at JCI. Acceptance by Union Local must occur within 365 days of employment or will result in termination of this position. This is not a guaranty of employment or entering the Union. The Union has its own entry, qualification & screening programs.
