Job summary

Johnson Controls is seeking skilled HVAC Mechanics with extensive commercial/industrial experience to perform maintenance, repair, and installation of HVACR systems. You will work on rooftop units, boilers, chillers, pumps and related equipment, often in partnership with Journeymen.

Expect to travel 10–20% to support branch customers and participate in training programs. A strong safety focus and the ability to write clear customer problem statements are essential.

Qualifications

• Eight+ years in commercial/industrial HVAC mechanical troubleshooting.
• EPA refrigerants license and state/local licensing.
• Repair capabilities for centrifugal compressors, steam turbines, screw chillers, and ammonia/hydrocarbon systems.
• Willingness to travel 10–20% and pass pre-hiring screenings.
• Union member or willingness to join UA Local Union.

How will you do it

We are looking for skilled HVAC Mechanics who have practical work experience in their trade, (HVAC piping, plumbing, pipefitting and /or mechanical equipment service industry).

Mechanics must have practical work experience in light commercial or commercial mechanical equipment. May be required to satisfactorily pass an examination to identify special skills. Scope of work shall be limited to commercial HVACR service. Servicemen may partner with Journeymen in the repair of centrifugal, steam turbines, and absorption machines, open-drive screw chillers and ammonia systems. Perform maintenance, repair and replacement services on commercial heating and cooling systems.

Provide our customers with the highest level of service to solve facility inefficiencies and resolve service-related items. As a trusted advisor to our customers, you will provide solutions and outcomes at the time of commissioning and aftermarket service. Provide recommendations and solutions to ensure facility is running efficiently to include upselling opportunities. Provide quotes to support recommendations and solutions.

What we look for

Required

• Must be a member or willing to join the United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipe Fitting Industry of the United States and Canada, AFL-CIO.
• Be a dedicated member of a North America Branch team willing to learn and be responsible for system trouble shooting, repair and aftermarket services for this fast-growing business.
• Minimum of Eight (8) years Commercial and/or industrial, mechanical troubleshooting experience in the HVAC industry and Industrial Petrochemical, or Data Center vertical environments. This includes Rooftop units, pumps, fans, towers, boilers, chillers, compressors, plumbing.
• Able to repair centrifugal compressors, steam turbines, screw chillers and/or ammonia / hydrocarbon system components.
• Maintain ammonia and hydrocarbon safety training certification.
• Able to install complete systems, (Chillers, Rooftop Units, plumbing and all supporting mechanical systems).
• Mechanical shaft alignment using dial indicators, laser etc. of pumps, fans, Compressors.
• Able to use vibration equipment to trouble shoot drivelines.
• Travel maybe required 10% to 20% to support Branch Customers activities, trouble shooting, installation and repair.
• You will be required to pass a knowledge examination to assess proficiencies.

*This is a Bargaining Unit Position.

Pay Rate: $43.05 Hourly rate determined by the CBA/rate sheet. Benefits are provided through a local labor union aligned with a collective bargaining agreement.

This is a Bargaining Unit Position but is subject to all pre-hiring screening of JCI. With successful performance, JCI may recommend you to the Union Local apprenticeship program, as well as continued employment at JCI. Acceptance by Union Local must occur within 365 days of employment or will result in termination of this position. This is not a guaranty of employment or entering the Union.
