Job summary

Johnson Controls Inc. is seeking skilled HVAC Mechanics to join our Abilene, TX team, supporting light commercial to heavy industrial equipment. You will perform maintenance, repair, and replacement services on commercial heating and cooling systems, with emphasis on safety and accurate problem diagnosis.

Travel up to 20% may be required. Must have EPA refrigerants license and state/local licensing; strong focus on customer communication and teamwork within a unionized environment.

Qualifications

• Minimum eight years of commercial/industrial HVAC troubleshooting experience.
• EPA refrigerants license and appropriate state/local license.
• Ability to travel 10–20% to support branch activities.
• Experience with ammonia/hydrocarbon safety training.

How will you do it

We are looking for skilled HVAC Mechanics who have practical work experience in their trade, (HVAC piping, plumbing, pipefitting and /or mechanical equipment service industry). Mechanics must have practical work experience in light commercial or commercial mechanical equipment. May be required to satisfactorily pass an examination to identify special skills. Scope of work shall be limited to commercial HVACR service. Servicemen may partner with Journeymen in the repair of centrifugal, steam turbines, and absorption machines, open-drive screw chillers and ammonia systems. Perform maintenance, repair and replacement services on commercial heating and cooling systems.

What we look for Required

• Must be a member or willing to join the United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipe Fitting Industry of the United States and Canada, AFL-CIO.
• Be a dedicated member of a North America Branch team willing to learn and be responsible for system trouble shooting, repair and aftermarket services for this fast-growing business.
• Minimum of Eight (8) years Commercial and/or industrial, mechanical troubleshooting experience in the HVAC industry and Industrial Petrochemical, or Data Center vertical environments. This includes Rooftop units, pumps, fans, towers, boilers, chillers, compressors, plumbing.
• Able to repair centrifugal compressors, steam turbines, screw chillers and/or ammonia / hydrocarbon system components.
• Maintain ammonia and hydrocarbon safety training certification.
• Able to install complete systems, (Chillers, Rooftop Units, plumbing and all supporting mechanical systems).
• Mechanical shaft alignment using dial indicators, laser etc. of pumps, fans, Compressors.
• Able to use vibration equipment to trouble shoot drivelines.
• Travel maybe required 10% to 20% to support Branch Customers activities, trouble shooting, installation and repair.
• You will be required to pass a knowledge examination to assess proficiencies.

• You will work with other local market mechanics as well as Servicemen and apprentices and when necessary, provide on the job training.

• Able to provide quotes to customers and participate in JCI's Service Plus Rewards program.
• Self-starter with a passion/ desire to learn and apply on the job.
• Prioritize safety in all forms
• Universal EPA refrigerants license, applicable state or local licensing, and valid driver's license

Position is based in Abilene, TX. This is a Bargaining Unit Position. Pay Rate: $27.23. Hourly rate determined by the CBA/rate sheet.
