Job summary

Bluebird Fiber seeks a Data Center Facility Manager to ensure 24x7 operation of the data center, coordinating facility functions, service contracts, and sales support. The role requires strong technical aptitude and excellent communication to liaise with customers and vendors.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees 24 X 7 operations to ensure customer satisfaction and reliable daily operations.
  • Develops and updates maintenance processes and procedures for operations and system troubleshooting.
  • Schedules and performs installation and upgrades per manufacturer, engineering, and audit recommendations.
  • Acts as on-site point of contact, coordinating customer feedback and service initiatives.
  • Works with customers, contractors, vendors to address issues quickly and effectively.
  • Monitors electrical and mechanical capacities, aiming to increase reliability and efficiency.
  • Manages budgets, work orders, purchases, and expense reporting.

ABOUT THE POSITION:

The Data Center Facility Manager is ultimately responsible for the 24 X 7 successful operation of the Bluebird Data Center including, but not limited to facility management, customer support, service contract management, coordination of all data center functions and data center sales support

Requirements

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Three years recent experience in data center or communications facility operations in a 24 X 7 environment.
  • Recent direct responsibilities for facility operations, maintenance, and repair activities.
  • Demonstrated technical aptitude and proficiencies in the operation of a 24 x 7 facilities.
  • Strong oral and written skills with the ability to communicate at various levels within an organization.
  • Outgoing personality, approachable and friendly.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow procedures.
  • Formal training in HVAC, UPS, and high voltage systems is desired.
  • Associate degree or equivalent experience in facilities management is desired.
  • Budgetary and financial operations experience and responsibilities is desired.
  • Facility management experience is desired.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

This position requires excellent listening, oral and written communication skills. The individual must be able to handle multiple concurrent assignments and able to work effectively under pressure and show competence in mechanical, electrical and management systems utilized in a data center environment.

Summary

PRIMARY RESPONSIBLILITES:

  • Oversees activities to ensure customer satisfaction and reliable day-to-day operations are achieved. A high degree of detail and frequent follow-up, at various levels is required.
  • Participates in the development and updating of maintenance processes and procedures for operations, system troubleshooting, testing and maintenance functions. This includes electrical, mechanical, cross-connect, building management, security, video and building safety systems. This position is accountable for the successful implementation of those processes and procedures within the facility.
  • Directly responsible for ensuring that all operations, routine/preventative maintenance tasks and installation/upgrades are scheduled and performed in accordance with all documented manufacturer, engineering, and audit recommendations. Full and accurate documentation of such work and performance tracking is required.
  • Serves as the data center’s on-site point of contact. Acts as a customer liaison to identify unmet needs. Routinely seeks customer feedback and measures satisfaction levels. Assists in business development and sales initiatives.
  • Works closely with customers, service contractors, vendors, network carriers to direct and coordinate any service issue or system modification, upgrade, or expansion, and to address issues quickly, thoroughly, and effectively. May dispatch appropriate service contractors and data center personnel as required.
  • Responsible for 24 X 7 monitoring the facilities’ electrical and mechanical capacities, taking corrective measures to ensure continuous operations, in a cost-effective manner.
  • Responsible for monitoring all utilization of electrical power and room environments to proactively make recommendations increasing reliability and efficiency.
  • Responsible for mechanical, electrical and network capacity planning and forecasts for future upgrades/expansions.
  • Supervises data center facility technical staff and work assignments.
  • Prepares annual budget requests and management of work orders, purchases orders and expense reporting.
  • Main point of contact for data center audits, coordinating data collection and reviewing audit recommendations.
  • Provides training and support to company and vendor personnel.
  • Assures adherence to company policies, procedures, and safety rules.
