Data Center Engineering Operations Technician, DCC Communities

Job Overview

You would work with teams of front-line responders supporting the operations of some of the world’s most powerful data centers. Our Data Center Engineering Operations team maintains and operates critical infrastructure systems to ensure they are prepared for any situation.

AWS has the world’s largest cloud computing portfolio. As an Amazonian, you will work in some of the most sophisticated, safe, and secure data centers worldwide. Our Engineering Operations Technicians (EOTs) help maintain these facilities by testing and implementing new technology and work practices to meet market demands.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform daily building rounds to monitor electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment, ensuring 24/7 reliability and availability.
  • Monitor Building Management Systems (BMS) and Electrical Power Management System (EPMS).
  • Assist in troubleshooting facility and rack-level events within Service Level Agreements (SLA).
  • Perform rack installations and decommissioning within SLA.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and repair of electrical and mechanical equipment.
  • Create technical documentation to support change management.
  • Manage daily work requests and execute projects from conception to completion.
  • Support on-site contractors, subcontractors, and vendors, ensuring compliance with procedures and legislation.
  • Work schedule may vary, including shifts up to 12 hours and on-call rotations.
  • This role may support multiple locations/sites.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to work in conditions requiring reasonable accommodations, including lifting up to 39 pounds independently and participating in group lifts for heavier objects.
  • Maintain balance and perform construction tasks on ladders.
  • Regularly walk, handle objects, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb stairs, twist, bend, grasp, carry, push, and pull objects.
  • Work environment may require ear protection.
Role Description

This role involves hands-on electrical and mechanical preventative maintenance and troubleshooting, reporting to a Data Center Facility Manager. Responsibilities include maintaining mission-critical equipment such as generators, switchgear, UPS, batteries, chillers, cooling towers, water systems, air handlers, pumps, motors, fire safety equipment, building automation systems, and general facilities equipment.

Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Technical training or 1+ years of electrical, mechanical, HVAC, fire system experience, or relevant industry experience.
  • 1+ years of experience with Microsoft Office products.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 2+ years of data center engineering experience.
