Job summary

Autonomai Recruitment partners with a technology-driven trading firm to hire a Data Center Engineer in Chicago, IL. You will own data center infrastructure from power and cooling to cabling, supporting high-performance trading operations.

This is a hands-on role covering hardware installation, rack and stack, Linux CLI troubleshooting, and coordination with colocation providers. Expect travel to other sites and collaboration with network/storage teams to keep mission-critical systems online.

Qualifications

• 3+ years data center experience.
• Experience in low latency trading environment.
• Strong understanding of electrical, power, cooling, and safety.
• Cable management with high standards.
• Experience repairing hardware across servers, network devices, and storage.
• Hands-on configuring Cisco/Arista devices via CLI.
• Comfort with Linux CLI for troubleshooting.
• Understanding of basic network designs and topologies.
• Programming using Python is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Maintain data center infrastructure including power, cooling, hardware, and cabling to ensure maximum availability.
• Plan and execute new hardware installations, covering physical placement and cabling.
• Rack, cable, and configure data center hardware including servers, network equipment, and storage devices.
• Perform hardware troubleshooting and break-fix across data center infrastructure.
• Handle initial configuration of network devices and Linux servers via CLI and zero-touch provisioning.
• Manage colocation provider and vendor relationships, and oversee onsite contractors.
• Maintain accurate inventory, documentation, and capacity planning across space, power, cooling, and cabling.
• Occasional travel to other data center sites may be required.

About the opportunity

I'm partnered with a technology-driven trading firm that operates some of the most sophisticated low-latency and high-performance computing infrastructure in the industry. They are looking for a Data Center Engineer to join a global infrastructure team responsible for the physical Data Center environments that power their trading operations.

This is a hands-on, project-oriented role with real ownership from start to finish. You'll work with cutting-edge server, network, and storage technology, and play a central part in keeping mission-critical infrastructure running at its best.

What you'll do

• Maintain data center infrastructure including power, cooling, hardware, and cabling to ensure maximum availability
• Plan and execute new hardware installations, covering physical placement, power and cooling requirements, and structured cabling
• Rack, cable, and configure data center hardware including servers, network equipment, and storage devices
• Perform hardware troubleshooting and break-fix across data center infrastructure
• Handle initial configuration of network devices and Linux servers via CLI and zero-touch provisioning
• Manage colocation provider and vendor relationships, and oversee onsite contractors
• Maintain accurate inventory, documentation, and capacity planning across space, power, cooling, and cabling
• Occasional travel to other data center sites may be required

What you'll bring

• 3+ years of data center experience
• Prior experience in a low latency trading environment (or similar)
• Strong understanding of data center infrastructure including electrical, power, cooling, liquid cooling, and safety
• Knowledge of cabling standards and media types, with an exceptionally high standard for cable management
• Experience with hardware repair across servers, network devices, and storage
• Hands-on experience configuring Cisco and Arista devices via CLI
• Comfort working at the Linux command line for basic troubleshooting and script execution
• Ability to understand basic network designs and topologies
• Programming experience such as Python is a plus
• Must be able to meet physical requirements including working at height and lifting up to 50 lbs
