Job description
About the Role

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Power System Protection Engineer to join our Data Center Engineering team. As a Power System Protection Engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring the reliable and secure operation of power systems by designing, testing, and implementing effective protection and control schemes. Your expertise in relay protection and controls, relay coordination, and power systems will provide solutions and services that help our data center customers protect and control mission critical electrical infrastructure and power systems worldwide.

Location: Open to multiple US locations.

Experience Level: Minimum of 5+ years in power system protection and control.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and implement protection and control schemes for power systems. Create protective relay settings for high-voltage, medium-voltage, and low-voltage data center applications.
  • Perform short-circuit, coordination, and arc-flash studies using Power System software such as Aspen, ETAP, CAPE, SKM.
  • Perform system testing and commissioning activities to validate the functionality and performance of protection schemes.
  • Develop and validate innovative Protection and Control solutions applicable to data center applications.
  • Perform root-cause analysis to investigate field events.
  • Participate in business development activities, onsite or remote, by presenting SEL products and solutions to data center customers. Follow and apply SEL Values, Principles of Operations, and World Class Manufacturing Principles.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including project managers, engineers, and technicians, to assess system requirements and implement protection strategies accordingly.
  • Lead and execute technical projects with a team, manage customer expectations, and deliver high quality project deliverables.
  • Willing to travel domestically and internationally at least 25% of the time.
Required Skills & Qualifications
  • Have a B.S. degree in electrical engineering or relevant discipline.
  • Have a strong understanding of power system protection principles, relay protection and control schemes, and relay coordination techniques.
  • Familiar with relevant industry standards, such as IEEE, IEC, and NERC/FERC regulations.
  • Proven experience in designing and implementing protection and control schemes in a utility or industrial setting.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills and the ability to analyze complex power system protection challenges.

Pay Range Data

Project Engineer II $100,000-140,000 per year. We are open to reviewing candidates with more or less experience and the salary range may differ if filled at a different level. Our ranges are determined by job, responsibility, and location. We base our starting pay offer and title on location and job-related factors such as candidate experience, training, knowledge, and skills
