Job summary

Hut 8 is seeking an Architectural Engineer to oversee building envelope, layouts, and code compliance across data center projects. You will ensure AHJ approvals and alignment with MEP schedules, supporting permitting and coordination with design partners.

The role requires 5+ years in industrial or large commercial buildings, expertise in IBC and life-safety, and proficiency with Revit. Occasional site travel is expected as part of envelope milestones.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of architectural or architectural-engineering experience on industrial, mission-critical, or large commercial buildings.
• Strong working command of IBC, egress and life-safety design, fire-rated assemblies, and accessibility requirements.
• Envelope expertise: air/vapor barriers, roofing systems, and detailing that survives value engineering.
• Experience running AHJ plan review cycles to approval across multiple jurisdictions.
• Proficiency reviewing Revit-based packages, specifications, and construction submittals.
• RA or PE (or clear path to licensure) preferred; data center, semiconductor, or industrial portfolio a plus.
• Comfortable supporting several concurrent projects with shifting priorities.
• Collaborative working style across many disciplines and external design partners.
• Periodic site travel for envelope milestones and punch (typically 10-20%).

Responsibilities

• Architectural Design Review: Review architectural packages across projects - envelope assemblies, roofing systems, exterior skin, doors and hardware, interior layouts, and finishes - for code compliance, durability, and program standards. Verify layouts support equipment movement, maintenance access, and security layering.
• Code, Egress & Life Safety: Own review of occupancy classification, egress design, fire-rated assemblies, and accessibility compliance. Coordinate life-safety plans with the Fire Protection Engineer and resolve code interpretation questions with AHJs.
• Permitting & AHJ Coordination: Support building permit submittals and drive AHJ plan-review comments to resolution with design partners. Anticipate jurisdiction-specific requirements early enough to keep permits off the critical path.
• Envelope & Water-Tightness: Review envelope details for constructability and performance - air/vapor barriers, roofing terminations, penetrations, and louver/equipment interfaces. Support the field on water-tightness milestones that gate MEP rough-in and equipment set.
• Cross-Discipline Coordination: Coordinate architectural scope with structural, mechanical, electrical, fire protection, and security: penetrations, acoustics, equipment access paths, and roof loading zones.
• Construction Support & Standards: Respond to architectural RFIs and submittals, support finish and punch milestones with CSA superintendents, and maintain architectural standards and typical details across the portfolio.
