Job summary

Vertiv seeks a Technical Innovation Intern to support the Office of the CTO by researching emerging technologies and evaluating their potential to enhance data center operations and Vertiv’s product lines. The role includes hands‑on AI development, prototyping on local computing systems, and collaboration with engineering, product, IT, and university teams.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in STEM fields (engineering, CS, data science, AI)
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Demonstrated work ethic, attention to detail, and commitment to high‑quality work
• Strong analytical, research, problem‑solving, and critical‑thinking skills
• Ability to learn in a fast‑paced innovation environment and manage multiple assignments
• Strong collaboration across engineering, product, IT, and external partner teams
• Experience with Python and familiarity with Linux or Ubuntu environments is preferred
• Familiarity with machine learning, generative AI, large language models, embeddings, semantic search, or model evaluation is preferred
• Exposure to Git or GitLab, REST APIs, databases, containers, automation, or open‑source AI tools is a plus
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint; Power BI or Streamlit experience is a plus
• Ability to troubleshoot software and system issues and maintain clear technical documentation
• Commitment to safe, secure, ethical, and responsible use of AI systems and company information

Responsibilities

• Research emerging data center technologies (AC power, cooling, energy storage, IoT, AI infra)
• Analyze industry reports, patents, and market trends to identify innovations
• Evaluate technologies from startups, universities, vendors, and tech providers
• Assess potential impact on current and future Vertiv products
• Prepare technical summaries, reports, and recommendations for integration or development
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to assess feasibility and application potential
• Prototype, test, and document AI workflows on local computing systems
• Support LLM deployment, inference, prompt testing, and semantic search
• Assist with Python data pipelines, APIs, RSS integrations, dashboards, and automation
• Maintain reliable AI computing workloads (logging, jobs, backups, startup/recovery)
• Follow IT, lab, cybersecurity, and responsible‑AI requirements with AI systems
• Support university partnerships, startup engagement, dashboards, newsletters, and knowledge‑management
• Present research findings, demonstrations, and recommendations to CTO Office and leadership
