Purpose

CareFirst is undertaking a digital transformation which requires enterprise agility paired with the retooling of our technology stack to enable speed to value and expand our reach. CareFirst is seeking a highly skilled Data and Analytics Scrum Master to join our dynamic organization dedicated to delivering innovative Data and Analytics products for key stakeholders.

In this role, you will lead a cross-functional team, guiding them on how to use Agile, Scrum, and Lean values/practices through servant leadership. You will create and nurture a culture of continuous learning, growth mindset, and agile maturity in teams through agile practices, agile mindset, metrics, removal of blockers, and establishing partnerships with leadership. This position plays a crucial role in supporting Data and Analytics as it transitions to Agile at Scale, requiring a collaborative and growth-oriented mindset to effectively manage risks, dependencies, and outcomes.

Essential Functions
  • Facilitates the team's progress toward goals, acting as a facilitator and challenging old ways of working to improve performance in quality, predictability, flow, velocity, and other metrics. Helps the team focus on daily and iteration goals, leads efforts in relentless improvement, and facilitates team retrospectives. Teaches problem-solving techniques and helps the team become better problem solvers. Facilitates team meetings such as Daily Stand-up, Iteration Planning, Review, and Retrospective. Ensures Definition of Done and other working agreements are followed. Facilitates discussions, decision-making, and conflict resolution to improve performance and value delivery.
  • Eliminates impediments by engaging the right stakeholders. Supports the team in addressing issues to achieve iteration goals. Assists with communication and transparency.
  • Supports efforts to improve communication and relationships with other teams. Coordinates work with other teams, represents the team in Scrum of Scrums, and helps build effective relationships with supporting teams like User Experience, Architecture, and Shared Services. Supports the Product Owner in backlog management and team dynamics.
  • Exhibits behaviors of a Lean-Agile Leader to nurture a Lean-Agile Mindset, providing input to improve business agility and supporting the culture change needed for agility.
Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no direct reports but may lead teams informally in a matrix environment.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's Degree or, in lieu, an additional 4 years of relevant work experience.

Experience: 5 years in Agile/Scrum/Lean/SAFe practices in delivering business value or equivalent IT methodology.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience as a Scrum Master or Kanban practitioner.
  • Experience with SAFe Agile Release Train.
  • Experience using Jira and Jira Align.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of Lean Agile principles, Scrum, Kanban, and Scaling frameworks like SAFe.
  • Strong accountability for program success.
  • Knowledge of Product Ownership, DevOps, Test Automation.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Self-starter with prioritization skills.
  • Ability to organize data and generate metrics, reports, dashboards.
  • Ability to lead change, manage conflicts constructively.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Agile tools.
Licenses/Certifications
  • SAFe Scrum Master Certification (preferred)
  • Certified Scrum Master (required)
Salary Range

$93,240 - $185,185
